FoodFOR THE FOODIE
NEW & NOTABLE RESTAURANTS:
With so many wonderful restaurants in NYC opening and closing all the time, it's hard to keep up.  Each week I will send you one new and one notable restaurant in the city.

Vaucluse
NEW: Vaucluse
French Cuisine
Upper East Side: 100 East 63rd Street
A sensational newcomer for the Altamarea Group. A true French brassiere... elegant yet comfortable and reminiscent of a French farmhouse.  With chef Michael White at the helm, you can be assured of both outstanding classic and innovated dishes.  Both the food and service are impeccable.  As an added bonus, the acoustics are perfect, allowing you to chat comfortably with your guests.  Try the Pan Seared Trout, Tagliatelle Pasta, and Mousse au Chocolat! Should you want a more relaxed evening, sit in their expansive bar serving both French and American wines.  True perfection!

NOTABLE: Tutto il Giorno
Italian Cuisine
Tribeca: 114 Franklin Street
After launching two successful restaurants in the Hamptons, Tutto il Giorno has been a welcome addition to Tribeca.  In a city filled with so many Italian restaurants, you have to stand out from the crowd to be successful.  And Tutto il Giorno does just that!  Chic design and contemporary dishes from Naples are two of its special features.   Designer and owner, Gabby Karan De Felice (daughter of Donna Karen) has created a breathtaking modern Mediterranean eatery in a loft like space.  I highly recommend the Burrata and the Bistecca per Due.

Merchant's House Museum

Merchant's House Museum
29 East 4th Street
A haunted spot any day of the week, but check out their calendar of frightful events in October and November. From ghost stories to psychic talks and a funeral reenactment... I'm spooked just thinking about it!  I've been on their Candlelight Ghost Tour and I would certainly do it again - it's quite exciting. Just don't go alone!

Watson Adventures has a number of great NYC tours, but this one is especially eerie. With a flashlight in hand, you visit 'haunted' buildings and secret cemeteries while learning the stories of these ghosts; Mark Twain, Thomas Paine, and Edgar Allan Poe to name a few.

Visit some known-to-be-haunted spots...
The Merchant's House Museum is always the top of the list, but here are a few others:
  •  One if by Land, Two if by Sea
    17 Barrow Street
Many believe the former Vice President, Aaron Burr, is the source of the paranormal activity-flickering lights and missing items in the restaurant, which is located in what was once his carriage house.

  • The Ear Inn
    326 Spring Street
Legend has it that this Irish tavern, housed in a nearly 200-year-old building, is haunted by a sailor named Mickey. (The seaman was apparently hit by a car and died outside the bar in the 1960s.) He's said to make his presence known by lighting the fireplace.
  • New Amsterdam Theater
    214 West 42nd Street
The story goes that actress Olive Thomas stumbled out of the bathroom of a Parisian hotel, horrified by what she'd done, having accidentally ingested an entire bottle of mercury bi-chloride pills. Thomas' ghost crossed the Atlantic so that she could haunt the New Amsterdam, where she once acted. Workers and security guards have claimed to see Thomas walking backstage and throughout the halls of the theater, clutching a blue bottle of pills.
WATCH A FRIGHTFUL FLICK:
If you love to be scared by the big screen (as I do), here are two scary movie events to fulfill your desire for fright!
