The Doer
Tyra

Movement is happening all around the globe! From Asia to South America, from Europe to the United States, people young and old are coming into an awareness of "DOING." 2013 is a year of "DOING!" Women are relational and very social by nature, so connecting, networking, sharing, and assisting are all parts of the movement, but not the full portion of the movement! There are dreams, visions, moves of God, aspirations, and deep longings that can't be uttered in the hearts of women everywhere, and yet we are not "DOING." Kingdom Women, we are at the threshold of promise! You can no longer allow the circumstances of life to cause apprehension and stagnation to keep you in a holding pattern. Complacency, fear, misinformation, and not knowing what to do next are some of the roadblocks that can deter you. "DOING" takes courage. It takes movement. It takes knowing what God told you to "DO" and constantly stirring inside yourself (prayer, quiet time, and self love) to move you to a mindset of "DOING."

God is speaking bountifully, eagerly shifting the heart to be a "DOER." His word says in James 1:22-23 to not only hear but do what you are hearing. We charge you to build a support and accountability structure for your life. Surround yourself with people who will tell you the truth and have your best interest at heart.  As this year is in its beginning stages, do some self reflecting and invest in the gifts within you. Do what's in your heart and don't allow circumstances, negative habits, and unsupportive people to hinder you.

Look at Your Hands

By Théres W. Stiefer

theres

What is it in your life that calls you to be bigger than you thought possible? What if every day of your life was the best day? What does it mean to love yourself by doing what's in your heart? How would your life be different if you began each day with these questions?

We live in a world that is problem and deficit-based, where we have a preference for experts and answers, and where cynicism passes for sophistication. This is so prevalent that we don't even notice it anymore. I believe these are the greatest enemies of hope. But I challenge you to cultivate a passion for life-orienting questions, to focus on what works and what matters, and to invite others into conversations that are inspiring, productive, and generative. When you do this, you will begin to see the world anew and recognize that every time you speak you contribute to creating a culture of blessing, love, hope, and glory. The language and words you use become a moral choice. If you cannot walk into a conversation and lift it...then leave it. One of the most important and positive things we can give another is hope with direction, encouragement, and believability - hope that the future is going to be bright for them, regardless of where we are or they are at the moment. I would encourage you to only speak words that make souls stronger.

Our eyes and ears have fooled us for many generations, only to discover that it is through our hearts and hands that we really see and hear the world. Take a moment and look at your hands. Hold them open and really look at them. Think of all that they have held, touched, felt...your grandmother's hand, a precious baby, that perfect rock your dad taught you to skip, the handlebars on your new bike, a warm-baked cookie. What is going on in your heart? Maybe it is still looking for that joy, peace, grace, compassion, and the ability to be still and recognize the simple gifts of your life. By loving yourself by doing what's in your heart, I believe that you can treasure life as a mystery that will never be fully understood, as a sanctity that should never be destroyed, and as an invitation to experience now what can be remembered tomorrow. Look at your hands...and you will find your heart.

Buried deep within your heart is an enormous strength and capacity to create a vision in your life of hope, inspiration, and transformational love. There are four ways to align your heart with your own love and understanding. First, you must renounce all cynicism by looking at what is possible. Secondly, remember that what you seek is what you will find. If you seek despair, hate, suffering and grief, that is what you will find. But if you seek glory, love, hope, and joy, then your heart will discover a radical acceptance of life as it is. Thirdly, it is important to ask questions and to rediscover that sense of wonder, imagination, and awe in your life. Finally, give good attention to the power of images that you create in your mind and decide if they are worthy of the human spirit. Somewhere along the way we have been changed from human doings to human beings and we let life happen to us. Change is inevitable, but growth and understanding is optional.

I do not set goals or resolutions, but each January I pick a word to focus on throughout the year. In 2013, my word is "right" and I open my hands and heart to what is righteous, upright and in accordance with what is good, just, and proper. I challenge you to seek a word that emerges from your heart to cherish over this next year. Just as flowers grow toward the sun, so do we. You will grow toward what gives life and what makes you flourish. Your life is your own and you must hear with your heart, embrace living life fully, and discover that you already have in your heart what you have been looking for.

Empowered by Doing
By Markova Reed

mreedMy job as an anchor takes me all over the community and affords me the opportunity to meet many women.  Some of them are wealthy, while others are poor.  Some are working their hardest to maintain careers, families, and lifestyles.  Others are just trying to get through another day.  For all of their differences, the one thing they all have in common is that they are willing to give of themselves to the end.  As women, we are nurturers, but it is important to remember to nurture ourselves as we do others.  God has blessed each one of us with a gift worth sharing.  Our greatest "thank you" and praise to Him is living the very best life we can.  Appreciating your self-worth is one of the most important lessons you can learn as a woman.  Love yourself like you love others.  God made us in His image.  If we say we love God, yet we can't love ourselves, is not the way the Lord intended it.  If you have a talent, use it.  If you have a dream, pursue it.  If you have a truth, tell it.  We encourage and support our family and friends; therefore, we must realize that our dreams and aspirations require that same encouragement and support.  Moreover, our dreams deserve it!  Following your dreams or doing what's in your heart requires work.  It's not easy but nothing worth having ever is.  Plan prayerfully, proceed purposefully, and pray constantly!

I decided I wanted to be a news anchor when I was in junior high school.  I would tell people, "I'm going to be on the news!"  People would look at me like, yeah right! Yet, I wasn't discouraged.  I started preparing by working on the newspaper staff at my junior high and high schools.  Eventually, I earned a degree in journalism and started my first job in a news room.  It was just two years later that I would have my first opportunity to report and anchor.  A lot of things have changed since my early days in news, but the one thing that has remained the same is my faith in God.  There are no magic potions or secret weapons.  I have had disappointments and successes, but I've never stopped trusting in God to keep me and lead me.  I believe that God has blessed me with the gift to speak to people and share with them.  I love myself and honor God each day by being the best I can.

When you don't go after what you want in life, you're saddled with guilt and regret, and both emotions eat away at your self esteem.  Trust God and believe in HIS plan for your life.  Jeremiah 29:11 is God's promise to always take us where we cannot take ourselves.

Whenever we are not true to ourselves about our heart's desires, we set ourselves up for failure.  If it's in your heart to pay your tithes, pay them.  If it's in your heart to support a new ministry, do it.  If it's in your heart to go to church more, don't miss this week's Bible study.  If it's in your heart to start working out, go to the gym.  If you want to cook more, get to the grocery store and prepare.  These may sound like simple or trivial things to you, but it's the small things the enemy uses to trip you up.  John 10:10 tells us "The thief cometh not but for to steal and to kill and to destroy."  That means he comes to kill your spirit, your desire, and your drive.  Don't give the enemy victory in your life.  Identify what's in your heart!  Seek it, pursuit it, do it!  You can only truly love yourself by doing what's in your heart.  Loving ourselves is truly loving God.

So what's the FBR?

Helena L. Gadison

helenag

Let's talk about that...Welcome to this section easily referred to as the FBR (uh, you know like the "411")...it's the Fashion Beauty Review, session #1 from the point-of-view of writer, Helena, aka HG. So, since it's the first article let's establish some ground rules, expectations and ensure you are all "in my head"...after all, it is my article....

Why me? It may be due to the fact I've been in the apparel/beauty industry for more than 25 years across all channels of distribution (mass, discount, department and specialty retailers). Thanks to the great companies I've chosen to work for and with, my resume includes a history of fashion & beauty events + research in the USA (East & West Coast), Paris, London, Latin America and Japan across all faucets of the apparel industries: sourcing, brand & item development, marketing, in-store sales & presentation, retailtainment, models and make-up artists.

What to expect? A quick, easy read of sharing my perspective and knowledge to inform, amuse and guide women/girls in this fantabulous world of global fashion that sometimes can be confusing and misleading to the "untrained eye". Expect a consistent use of words and terminology throughout each newsletter (if given the opportunity to write another...:)

So, what is fashion & who says what is Fashion? Fash'ion n. a popular style of clothing relevant to afashion1 particular time.

Pretty much everyone but YOU gets to decide what is fashion & what you should be wearing ...the magazines, celebrities, the leading fashion capitols of the world like NYC, Los Angeles, Tokyo, Paris, London set the fashion tone/trends and they hope everyone will "drink the koolaid" and follow, whether it looks good or compliments YOU and YOUR body type or not. Fair? I say, "NOT".

So what can you do about it? Stop, Think and Listen for a moment....

Let's define a few other words that are common siblings to the word Fashion....Trend & Style

Trend n. a popular preference influenced by short-lived occurrences/activities...usually fades in 3-6 months and when you look at it in your closet after this period of time, you might think to yourself... "WTH...what was I thinking" or something like that. Another relative word...Fad.

Style n. a distinctive ability to master the coordination of clothing, shoes, and relevant accessories that transcends any one particular season or time period.

I bet in reading those descriptions you started to add your name to one or the other. Guess what...they (Fashion, Trend, and Style) are all okay, but there's a higher risk associated with one versus the other. It's okay to be aware of the fashion trends for your market and the season, but if it leads you to spend 100% of your clothing budget on trendy items for the season, you'll end-up with a closet full of short-lived clothing items that must be replaced often. Yikes! A smarter approach may be to know that "bright colors" are all the rage, but your lifestyle is more "classic", so maybe an investment in a bright yellow scarf or leather gloves or handbag or belt might be a safer approach than splurging on the yellow skinny leg jeans, yellow 2-pc suit and trench coat. Alert!

fashion2 Those sharp-eyed readers probably picked-up on another lingo in the prior paragraph...What is your lifestyle or style? Your style looks best on you and no one else because only you know what works best for your body type, lifestyle, personality, interest, and activities. Stay tuned for the next FBR, where you will learn more about the 3 main lifestyles and how to identify your style!

Congratulations...you just survived the 1st FBR...the foundation has been established for more great things to come! Hope I sparked your interest to read the next FBR....over & out!

"Beauty is in the eye of the beholder...Style is determined by its creator: YOU!"

Health Benefits of Drinking Water

Aletha Daniels

adaniels

Water is a natural fuel to our bodies.  Drinking lots of water as part of a healthy lifestyle is very important to me.  I strongly believe that water is life giving and an integral part of kingdom living.

  1. Water helps to lose weight, as drinking water reduces hunger.
  2. Water is a natural remedy for headache and back pains due to dehydration.
  3. Water helps to replenish skin tissues, moisturizes skin, and increases skin elasticity for younger and healthier skin.
  4. Drinking water regulates your body temperature, which assists in better exercise.
  5. Water reduces the risk of cancer, as it dilutes the concentration of cancer-causing agents in the urine and shortens the time in which they are in contact with bladder lining.
