THE FILTER CONSPIRACY

In our last issue I listed the many benefits of engaging in a conflict.  Today's issue will examine what I've named "THE FILTER CONSPIRACY."  There are many factors in our lives that unconsciously

spark our  filtering system as we attempt to communicate with another person.  This filtering system can sometimes conspire against us and limit as well as frustrate our efforts to engage successfully in a conflict.

The attachment ("The Filter Conspiracy") visually and dramatically shows the many different filters that each of us can bring into a conversation.  In addition, there are the filters of perceptions, expectations, and prior experiences with the other person.  As you look at the attachment, it can look daunting!  Small wonder, then, that having a successful outcome from a conflict can be very challenging.

 EXERCISE

This week I invite you to reflect on:

1. The "Filter Conspiracy" attachment to see how it can be useful to you in a conflict in a work or personal relationship.

2. You may want to share "The Filter Conspiracy" attachment with the other person.

3. Reflect on the insights from observing your own filters.

I look forward to hearing from you. We will learn together.
