Note-worthy:  The Innkeeper's Winter Music Picks

Music is such an integral part of our lives this time of year. Joyous or melancholy, the melodies are piped into stores, playing on the radio, and providing ambiance at parties and family gatherings.

May we suggest these outstanding CDs to add to your collection and keep your winter spirits bright:

Michael Buble' - Christmas

Michael Buble Christmas
David Foster arrangements and unique production techniques, tried and true seasonal classics, and Michael Buble's rich, mellow vocals ensure this will be a holiday treasure you'll listen to year after year. We recommend starting with our Hit Pick, "It's Beginning to Look a Lot like Christmas".

Natalie Cole - Unforgettable With Love

Natalie Cole: Unforgettable

A major change of direction for Natalie Cole,

Unforgettable found the singer abandoning the type of R&B/pop she'd been recording since 1975 in favor of jazz-influenced pre-rock pop along the lines of Nat King Cole's music. Creating an instant, timeless classic album to enjoy on any occasion.

Tony Bennett - Duets

At this point, who else but Tony Bennett would have the clout to round up stars on the scale of Elton John, Paul McCartney, Bono, Celine Dion and Barbra Streisand for some duets?  The material consists of relatively obvious classics in standard big-band arrangements, and Bennett himself is in top form at age 80, so much so that he doesn't need anybody else to handle "I Left My Heart in San Francisco." DUETS went on to win three Grammy Awards and is the singer's best selling album to date.

Beegie Adair -

Winter Romance

Bay View Header

A compilation of Christmas favorites arranged by talented Nashville jazz pianist Beegie Adair. The soothing sounds go perfectly with a fireplace and cup of hot cocoa or Bay View Blend Coffee.

With each season that ends, as we store the rocking chairs, slip the dust covers over the furniture, and lock up for the winter... we are gratified and thankful. Around November we have time to slow down and reflect on the previous months. It seems we always ask, "Could this year have been actually better than the last?" It doesn't seem possible, but you continue to make Bay View Bed and Breakfast the premier choice on Mackinac Island.

We are privileged to have hosted some precious, memory-making moments for both newlyweds just beginning their future together, and for "veteran" couples marking milestone anniversaries of 20, 30, or more years in the trenches. That you trust us with these truly special occasions is a compliment we don't take lightly.

Rose with staff

We are honored that as many of you checked out of Bay View this year, you were making your reservation for 2013. "Same room. Same time. Don't change a thing." Your enthusiasm makes our staff smile.

Loyal guests fill more than 30 percent of our rooms now, and we are so pleased that you feel comfortable and confident in recommending our Bay View to your friends and family. You are the reason we continue to come back each year. You are the reason we are happy to unlock the doors in the early Spring, air out the rooms, and fire up the kitchen for months of greeting new friends and renewing old acquaintances.

Thank you. It is our pleasure to continue to serve you with courtesy, friendliness, and offer you a truly magical experience.

You are always welcome!

For decades,  department and clothing stores touted "gift certificates" (now gift cards) as the "one size fits all" solution to the problem of "what to buy." Bay View and Brigadoon Bed and Breakfast have also been offering gift certificates for several years, and we are pleased that many of our guests are now sharing Bay View with others.
No, it isn't something that would first come to mind when making your list. But when you check it twice, stop and consider this: wouldn't an excursion to one of the area's two best bed and breakfast inns be a memorable gift that would be shared fondly for years? Wouldn't that time be treasured in a scrapbook? In cherished photos? In stories relived with family and friends?
Think of your own stay at Bay View or Brigadoon. Share that magic with others this holiday season with a gift certificate. Select a value starting at $100. We'll create the gold-trimmed document with your special message, sign it, and slip it in a presentation folder. Very classy. And very easy since you may also purchase gift certificates at the Bay View or Brigadoon websites.

Bay View Blend Coffee & Mugs

Bay View Blend Coffee

Sometimes it's the "little things" that make a difference. Show of hands -- how many would consider a cup of coffee one of the "little things" in life? We just take for granted our morning beverage. With it, we are able to put one foot in front of the other. Switch on the brain. We don't give coffee a second thought unless it's something truly exceptional.

Many of Bay View's guests give us high marks for our Bay View Blend Coffee. We agree. You won't find it on the shelf of any grocery or specialty store. It is a combination of several unique beans that yield a nose-tickling aroma and smooth, extraordinary flavor.

Since it's the season of giving - do so! Share it with your friends by ordering Bay View Blend Coffee and having it shipped to their door!  (And remember to order a bag for yourself.) Bay View Blend is available in one pound ($10.95) and five pound ($59.95)* quantities on our website. Any coffee gourmand will appreciate this thoughtful gift in the morning, over dessert with friends, during that afternoon downtime ... you get the idea.

Oh! And since it is the "little things," why not send along a couple of our simply handsome signature Bay View coffee mugs? In fact any order that includes a 5 lb. bag of coffee with also receive a complimentary Bay View coffe mug this holiday season!

Happy Hollandaise!
Bay View Cookbook

During the holidays, we know your mother, aunt, grandmother, and other Queens (and kings) of Cuisine flex their creative muscles to "draw the aawwww" from the mouth of every guest around the table. "Iron Chef" has nothing on these competitors.

Bay View Bed and Breakfast has its own unique recipes, as you know. And we've included three in this newsletter: Peach French Toast, Chumley Yoder's Amish Oatmeal Pie, and Bahama Mama Pie (if you're counting calories, you'll need all your fingers and toes). These yummy concoctions are also included in our Best of Bay View Cookbook, now in its third printing. May we suggest this for the chef on your shopping list?

Fill your table up with delicious treats everyone will enjoy Entries are submitted not just from Bay View's own Rose Grant, but from all over the country, so the Best of Bay View Cookbook is a true melting pot of textures, flavors and aromas that will delight all the senses. Apples to Zucchini - we think you'll agree it's a gift in good taste that will "give" many times over throughout the year.

Rose & Lydia's "Georgia-Peach" French Toast (pg. 49 in the Best of Bay View Cookbook)

Try our famous Peach Stuffed French Toast. You won't regret it.

Microwave or stove top preferably the night before (May be prepared in advance and frozen to bake at a later date.)

Melt 1 stick of butter,  1/2 cup of brown sugar, 1 cup dark Kayro syrup together.

Bring to a gentle boil and remove from heat.  Stir until mixture appears uniform and smooth.

Pour mixture into sprayed or greased 9 x 14 cake dish and let sit to cool.

Drain one (1) 32 oz. can of sliced or diced peaches   (Save the drained peach juice)

* If you use sliced peaches, you may want to chop them up into chunky thirds

Distribute the peaches evenly over the top of butter/syrup mixture

In your largest mixing bowl, blend  9 whole eggs, 2 cups whole milk , 1 Tablespoon vanilla extract.

One at a time, dip each piece of white bread or sliced french bread into the milk mixture and lay side by side over the top of the peaches and syrup mixture forming a long row. Continue to repeat the dipping process and overlap the previous bread row by at least half. Continue until the dish is full. You may want to think about how to lay it out before you start dipping the bread.  Practice makes perfect. Once you have filled the baking dish and any voids, pour the remaining mixture evenly over the top.  Sprinkle generously with cinnamon, cover, and place in refrigerator to sit over night.  (Also freezes well before baking at a later date)

Thaw or let sit if necessary, until mixture reaches room temperature. Bake at 350 degrees for about 40 minutes or until top is lightly toasted. Let stand to cool for 5 to 10 minutes.  Sprinkle generously with powdered sugar and serve with an optional 50/50 mixture of the drained peach juice and pancake syrup on the side.

Serves 6-8

We hope you enjoy this Bay View favorite, and think of us with every bite!

Best served with Bay View Blend Coffee...of course.
