Spring 2014

You haven't heard from me in awhile because we've have been busy renovating and moving to our new office in Saratoga. It's finally done and our therapists and clients have used words such as "beautiful," "comfortable," "convenient" and "homey" to describe our new office.

The theme for this quarter is "Resilience." Resilience means being able to bounce back when bad things happens. It is a set of skills that can be developed no matter what your age or circumstances.

We have a few staff announcements. Caitlyn is back from maternity leave and Erica has gotten licensed. In addition, the CBT Center is now on Facebook and Twitter.

Read more about these topics below.

If you have feedback about the topics in the newsletter or want to suggest subjects for future articles, feel free to email me at [email protected].

Warmly,
Laura Johnson
Director, Cognitive Behavior Therapy Center

Building Resilience
What is Resilience and How Can I Get It?

Resilience is the ability to become strong, healthy, or successful again after something bad happens. When you are resilient, you are able to bounce back from difficult experiences. Being resilient does not mean you do not experience difficult emotions like sadness, depression or anxiety nor does it mean you put on a "happy" face and go on with your life immediately. Resilience is a process of adapting to adversity, stress and trauma. The good news is that there are skills you can learn and use in your life to help you become more resilient.

Our New Office
We Moved and Expanded!

Due to growing demand for our CBT services, we have moved to a larger office space in Saratoga. Our new office is just a half mile from Hwy 85 and the Saratoga Avenue exit and only one and a half miles down the road from our old office in San Jose.

If you haven't seen us in awhile, now might be a good time for a booster session to review your strategies and ensure you are maintaining your progress. Our door is always open...except when we're out :-).

Caitlyn is Back
Caitlyn Oscarson is Seeing Clients Again

Caitlyn Oscarson, LMFT, returned from maternity leave in mid-January and is seeing clients on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Caitlyn has a compassionate and goal-oriented style and works with clients in both short-term and long-term relationships. Caitlyn provides therapy for anxiety-related disorders with all age groups and has a particular fondness for teens and young adults as well as new moms (being a new mom herself).

Caitlyn reports that her seven-month old son, Ellis, is growing rapidly. Ellis is in the 99th percentile for weight and learning to scoot around on his belly. Please join me in welcoming Caitlyn back!

Erica is Licensed
Erica Russell is now an LPCC

After many years of working in a variety of agencies, schools and our very own CBT Center to gain her 3,000 hours of counseling experience, Erica Russell is now a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC). Erica is already a skilled CBT therapist, having trained in CBT at Foothill College in the methods of Dr. David Burns before joining the CBT Center a year ago. Erica passed the last of her three exams to become an LPCC in mid-January. Erica will also be taking the exams to get dual-licensed as a Marriage & Family Therapist. Erica has accepted a position here at the CBT Center as a Licensed Staff Therapist and is seeing clients from Tuesday through Friday. Please join me in congratulating Erica on this huge accomplishment!
