ELAM's contribution to

the Pipeline and Pathways to Leadership

The recent release of the AAMC report on the status of women in medicine makes us aware of how persistent the gender gap in leadership remains.  ELAM, however, has much to celebrate in terms of our contribution to this progress. Of the 372 women department chairs in the U.S., 127 are ELUMs, representing 34% of all U.S. women medical department chairs. Of the 141 U.S. allopathic schools included  in the survey, women hold the deanship at 22 schools.  Twelve of these deans and interim deans are  ELUMs--an impressive 52% of all women medical school deans.
