Greetings!
Solstice Yoga Center in Zipolite, Mexico is thrilled to be celebrating its fifteenth anniversary! As part of our ongoing celebration of fifteen strong years of yoga in paradise, we will host renowned international teachers, increase our schedule of daily classes, and continue to enhance and improve our workshops and teacher training course. When I arrived in Mexico with my family all those years ago, yoga was still in its early stages in this country.
There were very few teachers and schools scattered throughout the land -- but there was very great interest in learning about the art. Today, the level of yoga practice in Mexico has risen dramatically and can be observed in many forms throughout the entire country. When we began Solstice, we did not have a business plan; we only had a dream to live in a healthy environment with our daughter -- and we always believed in the transformative power of Yoga.
Solstice Yoga Center has experienced its own ups and downs as the country has shifted in the last decade and a half. After 9/11, the tourist market dried up considerably, and political problems in the State of Oaxaca drove people away. But here we are -- full of energy, love and passion for yoga, with our evolving practice, a growing community, and a magnificent environment on the beach.
We are always deeply grateful to have so many returning students who dedicate themselves to practice with us! As we witness each other growing deeper in ourselves and our practice, it is an honor and a privilege to share the life journey of yoga together.
And, we're finally ready to share exciting news with you: in October 2014, Solstice Yoga Center will be moving to an enchanting new home at "Las 3 Marías" in San Agustinillo, the beautiful bay just 5 kilometers north of Zipolite! Stay tuned for more details in the coming months... I have been teaching for more than 20 years, and only now can I begin to understand what yoga is truly about. I know that asanas cannot be taught without meditation, and personal behavior cannot be truly observed without pranayama. I, too, am on an endless journey of discovery, with you as my guides, students, teachers and friends.
Yoga is a daily discipline, which ultimately leads to freedom. Thank you everybody -- thank you beautiful Mexico! Wishing you a great 2014 :-) Brigitte Longueville |
