Bon Secours Offers Help for Parents
Parenting, especially in transitions, can be hard work. Whether your child is entering preschool, middle school or college this fall, you're a new parent, learning a new phase of parenting!
As a Bon Secours Virginia employee, you have support for these transitions ---  and for many other parenting issues.
Commonwealth Parenting in Richmond offers classes such as welcoming home your baby, ages and stages, parenting preschoolers, and many other helpful classes for parents. Discounted assessments and testing services are included. 804-545-1272
Family Focus in Hampton Roads offers parent education classes, child custody classes, ESL classes, parent-child interactive learning groups, preteen/teen support programs and a preschool learning program for employees. 757-886-6511

2016 Amber Nease Scholarship Winner Kourtney Matthews

Amber Nease Scholarship winner Kourtney Matthews, left, is the daughter of Theresa Matthews.

Congratulations to Kourtney Matthews, this year's recipient of the Amber Nease scholarship. The $1,000 award honors a student who has volunteered with our health system.

She is the daughter of Theresa Matthews, who works at Memorial Regional Medical Center's revenue cycle department. Kourtney graduated from Powhatan County High School and will enter Clemson University this fall with the hope of becoming a nurse practitioner.

Kourtney volunteered about 240 hours at the Bon Secours Family Center.

HROC to Close Tomorrow Morning

Mary Immaculate Receives
Advanced Certification

Mary Immaculate Hospital recently received The Joint Commission's Gold Seal of Approval® and the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association's Heart-Check mark for Advanced Certification for Primary Stroke Centers. With this certification, Bon Secours Virginia is one of the largest stroke networks in the commonwealth.

Established in 2003, Advanced Certification for Primary Stroke Centers is awarded for a two-year period to Joint Commission-accredited acute care hospitals. The Gold Seal of Approval® and the Heart-Check mark represent symbols of quality from their respective organizations.

The football action continues at the Bon Secours Washington Redskins Training Camp, where open practices run through Aug. 14. Redskins players and coaches will be made available to sign
autographs and take pictures
with fans, schedules permitting.
Fan Appreciation Day will be held Saturday,
Aug. 13.

Palliative Medicine Honored by AHA

Bon Secours Richmond Palliative Medicine recently received the 2016 American Hospital Association Circle of Life award, which honors innovative palliative and end of life care programs and organizations that serve as models and inspiration to other providers. We're one of only three winning programs in the nation to be honored by AHA this year.

Bon Secours Richmond Palliative Medicine accepts the 2016 American Hospital Association Circle of Life Award

Dr. Seth Roberts, Dr. Leanne Yanni and Practice Administrator Julie MacPherson formally accepted the award at the AHA and Health Forum Leadership Summit in San Diego last month. This award falls on the heels of achieving The Joint Commission's Advanced Certification in Palliative Care at all four Richmond hospitals.

Maryview Medical Center Honored

Maryview Medical Center has received the Mission: Lifeline® Silver Receiving Quality Achievement Award for implementing specific quality improvement measures outlined by the American Heart Association for the treatment of patients who suffer severe heart attacks.

In addition to receiving the Mission: Lifeline Silver Receiving award, Maryview was recognized as a recipient of Mission: Lifeline's Silver-Plus award, which recognizes the hospital has reached an achievement score of 75 percent or greater for treating STEMI transfer patients from other facilities within 120 minutes.

During the week, campers will learn to ride regular bicycles ---  an activity that will help improve their confidence, self-esteem, social interactions with peers and physical fitness.
