Celebrating Diversity at Bon Secours

project-SEARCH
Project SEARCH interns, including these at Memorial Regional Medical Center, add to the richness and diversity of our health system. Front Row: Rachel DeLille, Asia Walker, Michael Yacavone, Savannah Chandler, and Adrianna LeMare. Back Row: Jacob Keiper, Preston Leech, Anastasia Hibbits.

April is Cultural Awareness Month at Bon Secours Virginia. It's a time to learn about all the various cultures in our community and about all the rich backgrounds and experiences of our employees. Throughout our health system, we open our minds and hearts.

Our diversity makes us stronger, and it enables us to provide better care to our patients. Take this month to talk to coworkers, learn their stories and share your own.

Interns Will Share Stories at Diversity Program
Throughout our health system, we're celebrating our differences. At Memorial Regional Medical Center and other Bon Secours facilities, that means employees are cheering on interns participating in Project SEARCH, a school-to-work transition program during the final year of high school that teaches employment skills to students with disabilities.

During an event on April 23 at MRMC, Project SEARCH interns will share their internship experiences in the hospital as well as future goals for employment. Learn more about interns' experiences this year.

Tell Us What You Think: Employee Engagement Survey Coming

Share Your Voice Logo

It's quick. It's easy. And it's very important.

Bon Secours wants you to share your voice in the 2015 Employee Engagement Survey, which runs April 20-May 3. This survey is your opportunity to tell us what you think.

To take the survey, you will need an access code that Gallup, which conducts the survey for Bon Secours, has mailed to your home. If you lose your access code, you can call the survey line and follow the voice prompts to obtain it. Your responses are completely confidential. Health system leaders working closely with employees will develop action plans based on the survey findings.

Employee feedback through the five-minute survey makes a true difference in our ministry. It helps to advance our mission and vision as a health system - and to make Bon Secours a great place to work!

Takes Shape

Hospice-House

Dr. Will Anderson, medical director of Bon Secours Hospice, gave a recent tour of the soon-to-be-completed Bon Secours Community Hospice House in Richmond's Bon Air neighborhood. The Hospice House is grounded in Bon Secours Richmond's deep commitment to hospice care ---  a founding element of the ministry of the Sisters of Bon Secours that began in 1824. The 16-room facility, scheduled to open later in 2015, will provide a high level of medical care and high quality of life for patients with terminal illness, while providing emotional and spiritual support to their families in a home-like environment.

anchor2Who Will Speak for You?

All adults can benefit from thinking about what their medical choices would be if they were unable to speak for themselves. National Healthcare Decisions Day, April 16, provides an opportunity to raise awareness and to make a plan.

These decisions can be written down as an advance directive, which can take one of two forms: A "healthcare power of attorney" documents the person you select to be your voice. A "living will" documents the medical treatments you would or would not want at the end of life.

Visit NHDD.org for more information. Let your voice be heard.
