What's the Difference between the E-News and E-Chronicle?
The E-News comes out twice a month, usually the closest business day to the 1st and 16th. It contains announcements for upcoming events and other important information that needs to get out.
The E-Chronicle, on the other hand, has less urgency. It comes out every other month, and reports on events that have already taken place. It may also feature special interest stories and reflections from folks around the Diocese.
We're here to help you spread the word about any events you have coming up (E-News), and also sharing the results with others in the Diocese (E-Chronicle). Send over your fliers, notices, photos and stories... you never know whose life you could impact or inspire!
To submit information for an upcoming event or to share photos and information on an event that has taken place, e-mail Communications.

EYE'14: Hawai'i Youth Delegation Heads to Philadelphia on July 8
After months of fundraising and coordination, the Diocese of Hawai'i's youth delegation is ready for the big triennial Episcopal Youth Event (EYE'14) in Philadelphia. Diocesan Youth Director, Sarah Klitzke, will be leading the group of 24 high school youth and 5 adults from different Episcopal churches around the state. They will be heading out on Tuesday, July 8, to join over 1,000 other young Episcopalians and leaders from around the world in Philadelphia, PA, for the Episcopal Church's largest youth event. They will spend 3 days together in worship and praise, fellowship and sharing, growing and learning, through a variety of workshops, special sessions and guest speakers.
Casey Nakamura, a member of the EYE'14 planning team and youth member of All Saints' Church on Kaua'i, has been hard at work for the past year, traveling to the mainland for a number of meetings to help make it a most memorable one. Despite being bombarded with lots of questions whenever she returns from a meeting, she has had to keep plans under wraps so that it will be a great surprise for everyone.
Following EYE'14, the Hawai'i delegation will take part in an additional 3 days of urban mission, serving wherever they are placed. They will return home on July 18, after a couple days of touring Pennsylvania. Please keep the delegation and all of the participants of this wonderful event in your prayers.

A Taste of EfM - Training July 24 - 26
St. Anthony Retreat Center Announced
By Peter Carson
The site for the EfM mentor training on July 24-26 has been announced as the St. Anthony Retreat Center in Kalihi. The training class size is limited to 8 people.
Education for Ministry (EfM) is a very effective tool for formation and growth - actually, a whole toolkit. A program developed and overseen by the School of Theology at the University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee, EfM uses a multi-pronged approach to help us "grow up in every way into Christ". Sewanee provides study materials and trained leadership. No background is necessary; this course is open to all adults.
If you believe EfM is right for your church you only need a trained EfM mentor to start a class. A training session for EfM mentors requires 18 hours of participation in a training class. If you or anyone at your church are interested in forming a class or if you have any questions about EFM, contact Peter Carson at (808) 754-3665, or e-mail. __________________________________ |

Joint Nominating Committee Provides Update, Presents First of Three Essays
The Episcopal Church Joint Nominating Committee for the Election of the Presiding Bishop (JNCPB) has issued the following information:
The Joint Nominating Committee for the Election of the Presiding Bishop (JNCPB) is continuing its work to prepare The Episcopal Church for the election of the 27th Presiding Bishop at General Convention in 2015.
Between now and August 1, the JNCPB will publish three short educational essays.
This first essay describes the basic timeline and steps for the nominating and election process. (The first essay is presented below.) The second essay will outline the current roles, functions, and responsibilities of the Presiding Bishop. The third essay will discuss how the office of Presiding Bishop has changed and evolved from being the senior bishop by consecration who presides over meetings of the House of Bishops to the complex multifaceted position it is today.
It is the hope of the JNCPB that all members of General Convention and all Episcopalians will take the time to read these brief essays to learn the importance of what we will do next summer at General Convention. Should you have any questions or comments about these essays or the work of the JNCPB please contact [email protected].
The JNCPB is comprised of a lay member, a priest or deacon, and a bishop from each of the nine provinces of The Episcopal Church elected by the House of Deputies and House of Bishops respectively, plus two youth representatives, appointed by the President of the House of Deputies. The members serve a three-year term that concludes with the close of 78th General Convention in Salt Lake City, UT (Diocese of Utah). READ MORE

United Thank Offering Providing
Special Anniversary Grants
[June 23, 2014] The Episcopal Church United Thank Offering is providing special "seed money" grants of $12,500 to one bishop in each of the Church's nine provinces, and to the Presiding Bishop, for a total of $125,000.
Part of the celebration of the 125th Anniversary of the United Thank Offering, these one-time special anniversary grants are intended to be used for a project in each province that will reflect the fourth Anglican Mark of Mission: To seek to transform unjust structures of society, to challenge violence of every kind to pursue peace and reconciliation.
The project must be completed by May 1, 2015. The grants that are selected will be showcased at 78th General Convention in Salt Lake City, UT in June/July 2015.
Applications are available now; deadline is August 1, 2014. Applications available HERE.
Known worldwide as UTO, the United Thank Offering grants are awarded for projects that address human needs and help alleviate poverty, both domestically and internationally. __________________________________ |
Original Artwork Invited for
2014 Episcopal Church Christmas Card
Submissions are invited for original artwork that will be used for the 2014 Episcopal Church Christmas card. The original artwork should express a local understanding of God's incarnation for the celebration of Jesus' birth.
"The deep significance of God's presence among us in human flesh can only be understood in particular human contexts," noted Presiding Bishop Katharine Jefferts Schori. "We are not generic human beings, and because each human being is unique, we can't make sense of this reality in a generic human image of the divine. This is an invitation to share your understanding with the wider Church, so that all of us might have our own local image expanded and deepened. Do you see Jesus born in a stable, a cave, or under mid-winter stars? What did his earthly parents look like? What kind of plants fed the animals that gathered round? What did the celebration of their human herders look like? From what foreign cultures did the wise ones (Magi) come to learn and pay their respects? We all want to see Jesus - show us the birth of God in human flesh."
Deadline for submitting original artwork is August 15. Voting will occur September 1 to September 15, with the winner announced on October 1. A printable PDF of the card with the winning artwork will be made available online to all congregations. The greeting inside the card will appear in English, Spanish, French, Creole and Navajo.
For more information and submission guidelines, click HERE. __________________________________ |
