Welcome back to The eMule! Hope you enjoyed your Presidents' Day weekend. Here is the latest news from the Poplar Bluff R-I School District. |
How do you maximize the impact of just $10?
Break the bill down into 40 quarters and disperse the coins in random places throughout school.
That is how Poplar Bluff High School student Alexa King tackled the "giving project" after a friend in need of 25 cents for a vending machine snack got her wheels turning.
"This is the greatest assignment I have ever given in my 26-year teaching career," stated Beth Fox-Godwin, communication arts teacher. Student Colin Steffens agreed, saying that the book study was his favorite assignment in his four years of high school.
Fox-Godwin gave her senior composition class $10 apiece and tasked the students with doing something "kind and simple for our community."

Bonus: Patron post of the week
On Friday, Feb. 12, Cora Thompson wrote on the Poplar Bluff Schools Facebook page:
"My husband and I were eating at Subway, Winona, around noon today when a Poplar Bluff school bus arrived. The approximately 20 students had been to Twin Pines Conservation Center this morning. We were so impressed with these kids. There was no loud conversation, no roughhousing, no 'me first' attitudes displayed in the long line or in the booths. In fact, they offered to let a state highway patrolman and his (mother) break into the line ahead of them, then made the same offer to an older couple later, postponing their own meals. Someone, at school or at home or both, has done one fine job of rearing these kids. Congratulations!"
Thanks for the incredible affirmation, Mrs. Thompson! That was instructor Kathryn Clark's conservation class participating in a forestry workshop (see above).
