Vol. 3 No. 17
Welcome back to The eMule! On behalf of the faculty, staff and administration of the Poplar Bluff R-I School District, we would like to wish you a Happy New Year's!

Outtakes

With students and teachers away from campus for the holiday season, we thought we would open up our district photo archives, and give you a dozen outtakes in this final edition of The eMule for 2014. Please enjoy!

First grader Maddox Sneathern of Oak Grove Elementary spots the cameraman trying to take a candid shot as his mother Renee reads to him during DEAR Day (drop everything and read) earlier this month.

Janica King, now a second grader, jumps around during a behavioral reward party last November at Eugene Field Elementary.

Turns out Oak Grove Principal Jenifer Richardson was not asking for her photo to be taken through the window. She was trying to convey a message to get some Silly Stringing relief from teacher Chris Innes last November during the Paw Pride incentive program.

Clifford the Big Red Dog requests a photo with R-I Superintendent Chris Hon in September during the annual Missouri School Boards' Association conference at Osage Beach.

Administrative Assistant Carla Thompson celebrates the big... 3-0 in October in Central Office.

Last week, Administrative Assistant Barb Green led a friendly game of musical chairs (of sorts) during the annual Christmas party held in the Administrative Building.

Photobombing

According to Urban Dictionary, the definition of photobomb is: A) An otherwise normal photo that has been ruined or spoiled by someone who was not supposed to be in the photograph, or B) Any time the background of a picture hijacks the original focus.

At Poplar Bluff Schools, this phenomenon occurs in many forms (see examples below).

Jake Pridy, now a senior, gives the photographer a thumbs up in passing last October during the annual College Fair, organized by the Missouri Association for College Admission Counseling.

Ian Martinez [back left], now a student of the 5th & 6th Grade Center, gives the upside down peace sign, as library teacher Ashley Robertson of O'Neal Elementary leads an edible soil exercise in collaboration with the Butler County Soil and Water Conservation District in April.

A certified orthodontic assistant speaks to Junior High students about a career in dentistry last September in Mike Berry's Exploring Careers class. Josh Sullivan, now an eighth grader, puts his dukes up, while the photographer takes an action shot of Seth Sutton, a freshman, trying on a medical glove.

Physical education instructor Chris Smith of the Early Childhood Center tries to slip by the camera while Santa Claus from the Poplar Bluff Police Department delivers a present to Jazmine Bryant, now of the Kindergarten Center, last December.

And the textbook-perfect (inadvertent) photobomb award goes to: R-I Assistant Superintendent of Business Rod Priest [back left], who thinks he is out of view while reflecting with his colleagues during the retirement reception held last May in the Administrative Building.

Bonus: The PR guy behind the eMule

For any of my co-workers who I may have humiliated above or at any other point during my tenure, here is one of myself wearing the lucky Salvation Army bell-ringing antlers (per recommendation of Oak Grove fourth grader Lee Thompson) earlier this month at Walmart. Also pictured is photobomb king, Mr. Priest.
