National technology leader visits R-I
Jon Corippo, assistant superintendent of curriculum & instruction for the Mariposa County School System in California, discusses digital curriculum implementation with R-I administrators and teacher representatives earlier this month in the Administrative Building.
Corippo, who Superintendent Chris Hon met at a leadership conference in St. Louis, offered to visit Poplar Bluff for free to collaborate. He holds such titles as Apple Distinguished Educator and Google Certified Teacher, and has been involved with one to one initiatives since 2008.

Students advance to regional spelling bee
[From left] Adeesh Mishra, Eli Stinson and Megan Kirby of Poplar Bluff Junior High School were determined the finalists on Tuesday, Feb. 11, in a qualifying spelling bee that lasted 20 rounds and featured 30 top students.
The students will compete in the Southeast Missouri Regional Spelling Bee at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 1, in the Three Rivers College Tinnin Fine Arts Center.

School invited to First Midwest Conference
First Midwest Bank invited R-I school officials to provide information and answer questions about the facilities master plan during the 11th annual Business and Economic Conference on Thursday, Feb. 13, at the Black River Coliseum.

School partners with Lion's Club
Poplar Bluff Schools opened its doors to the Poplar Bluff Lion's Club, allowing the civic organization to host its annual Television Auction on Saturday, Feb. 15, in the Missouri Room of the Administrative Building.
The TV Auction serves as the main fundraiser of the Lion's Club, allowing the civic organization to accomplish its mission of providing free eye glasses exams, glasses and applicable eye surgeries to low income children and adults.

Skate City Night
Skate City Night for Junior High students will take place from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 20. Admission is $3. Roller blades cost $1.50. All proceeds go to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
February Board Meeting
The regularly scheduled monthly meeting of the Board of Education will begin at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 20, in the Administrative Building.
Practical Nursing Program
The Poplar Bluff Technical Career Center is currently accepting applications for the practical nursing class scheduled to begin in August. Application deadline is Saturday, March 1. Click here to apply.
Kindergarten enrollment
Enrollment in the Kindergarten Center will run from Monday through Thursday, March 3-6. Click here for more information.

On Tuesday, Feb. 4, KFVS12 featured the Kindergarten Center reciting the Pledge of Allegiance.
On Wednesday, Feb. 5, Southeast Missouri State University announced that Nick and Quentin Michel of PBHS signed with SEMO to play football.
The DAR reported about the school district's St. Jude fundraising drive, spearheaded this year by Oak Grove Principal Jenifer Richardson.
The DAR also published the PBHS honor roll.
On Friday, Feb. 7, the DAR reported about students from the 5th & 6th Grade Center participating in the annual Martin Luther King Day program.
The DAR also recognized the PBHS Thespian Troupe No. 4379 for winning a statewide award.
On Saturday, Feb. 8, PBHS Principal Michael Kiehne debuted his blog.
On Monday, Feb. 10, the DAR recognized our graduates from the Adult Education & Literacy Program.
On Friday, Feb. 14, the DAR published Superintendent Chris Hon's column, which was about the space issues that the school district is working to combat.
The DAR also ran a photo spread from Lady Mules JV Basketball.
On Sunday, Feb. 16, the DAR reported about Aaron Vincent and Matt King of PBHS qualifying for states in wrestling.
