An Early Childhood Thanksgiving
Poplar Bluff Early Childhood Center students dressed up as Pilgrims, Native Americans and turkeys for their annual Thanksgiving Feast on Tuesday, Nov. 26, in the school cafeteria.

Eugene Field Elementary School students scrapped their daily routines and focused solely on reading activities on Monday, Nov. 25, during Drop Everything And Read Day.

Junior Beta induction ceremony
An induction ceremony was held on Friday, Nov. 22, in the cafeteria for students at the 5th & 6th Grade Center who joined the Junior Beta Club for the 2013/14 school year.
The Junior Beta Club has already completed two service projects this school year, including holding a successful hat and glove drive, and raising nearly $2,000 for the United Cancer Assistance Network.
This year's officers are: Eva Bedell, president; Harrison Warren, vice-president; and Holley Alford, secretary.

Lake Road tours DAR
Chaperoned by teachers Candace Bowman, Pamela Hamilton and Teresa Hefner, Lake Road Elementary School third graders toured the Daily American Republic newspaper office on Friday, Nov. 22. DAR Proofreader Amber Hornbeck served as the tour guide.

An O'Neal Thanksgiving
As part of a school-wide Thanksgiving celebration at O'Neal Elementary, students made Pilgrim and Native American costumes and enjoyed a feast on Wednesday, Nov. 20, in the gymnasium.

SINGS rates Mules Café 5 stars
Technical Career Center culinary arts students, under the instruction of Chef Aaron Hudlow, recently taught Poplar Bluff R-I third graders of the SINGS class how to make pizza and milkshakes with homemade whipped cream at the Mules Café.
The hands-on lesson marked the completion of the SINGS unit on chemistry and cooking. SINGS stands for serving the individual needs of gifted students.
After touring the kitchen, the third graders reviewed the Mules Café for their daily writing exercise.
"I give this restaurant five stars," Jillianne Freeman wrote. "Yes, I said five stars. So I suggest [you] eat at the Mules Café. Best place. The chef, Mr. Hudlow, must be proud. Keep it up."

The Mules Café, located in the Administrative Building at 1110 N. Westwood Blvd., is open to the public from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. on Tuesdays and Fridays.

School Closed Tomorrow
There will be no school on Tuesday, Dec. 10, due to inclement weather.
Gift Wrapping
From 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, at the 5th & 6th Grade Center, a gift-wrapping fundraiser will be held for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Bring in your presents to be wrapped, and a donation of your choosing will be accepted.
Letter Jackets
Due to school being canceled today, Skeeter Kell Sporting Goods has rescheduled the Letter Jacket delivery to 9:30-11:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 16, in the PBHS gym lobby. If you placed an order, please come prepared to pay you balance and pick up your jacket.
Basketball Showdown
The 27th Poplar Bluff Basketball Showdown sponsored by First Midwest bank will take place from Thursday to Saturday, Dec. 26-28, at E.T. Peters Gym. Each game begins at 4 p.m.

On Monday, Nov. 25, the DAR ran a photo recognizing Communications Coordinator Tim Krakowiak for a recent statewide honor.
On Tuesday, Nov. 26, the DAR reported about the school board's decision to hire more school nurses.
The DAR ran a photo of our nursing students who were recognized on Veterans Day for their military service. Incredible story really that these students are working toward serving people in another capacity.
KFVS12 reported about Music Technology Day.
KFVS12 reported about the Simple Giving program at Walmart. Thanks to all who participated.
KFVS12 reported about Chartwells' Community Thanksgiving Dinner. We have a great partnership with our school dining service.
KFVS12 reported about our successful, colorful fundraiser for the Parent Teacher Organization at O'Neal Elementary.
