Public library, school forge partnership
More than 500 Poplar Bluff Junior High students took advantage of the public library's sign-up offering last week during laptop deployment.
The Poplar Bluff Public Library has partnered with the school district to establish a Wi-Fi 'hot spot,' providing students free Internet access in the evenings and on the weekends.
"I am so pleased that the public library has joined forced with the school district in transforming the way we reach and teach students of this generation," said Patty Robertson, R-I assistant superintendent of curriculum/instruction, who met with library officials earlier this summer to discuss the digital transformation.

Digital Transformation officially under way
Of 820 students at Poplar Bluff Junior High School, 87 percent turned out with their parents during laptop deployment from Monday to Wednesday, Aug. 12-14, in the gymnasium. About a dozen administrators, Junior High teachers and Media Center staff members volunteered during each of the eight sessions.

Back-to-School Convocation

Music teacher honored at Busch Stadium
Poplar Bluff 5th & 6th Grade Center music teacher Kristy Weaver recently threw the ceremonial first pitch during a St. Louis Cardinals game at Busch Stadium.
Weaver was granted the statewide honor for the excellence she demonstrates in the classroom, having been named the July winner of the "Stars of the Classroom" program through the Missouri Lottery.

Picture Day
Lifetouch will be at PBHS on Tuesday, Aug. 20, in the gymnasium to take student photos.
Senior High Open House
Open House for PBHS will take place from 6-7:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 22, beginning in the gym. From there, parents will be dismissed to follow their student's schedule (10 minutes per period). Please bring a copy of your student's schedule with you.
Charlie Classics
The PBHS Charlie Classics Reading Challenge, sponsored by U.S. Bank, begins on Sunday, Sept. 1. The top two readers at each grade level will be awarded Visa gift cards in the amount of $300 for first place and $150 for second. Contest ends April 30. Winners must read and have mentored a minimum of 10 books to qualify.
First Home Football Game
The first Mules Football game is slated for 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 6, at Morrow Stadium - versus Dexter. Go Mules!
