Apple trains school officials
Apple hosted an all-day workshop for Poplar Bluff R-I administrators and school technology leaders on Thursday, June 13, in the Administrative Building to help make sure the digital transformation is a success.

First camp for Pom Squad a success
The Poplar Bluff High School Pom Squad earned several ribbons for showmanship, team leadership and varying levels of technicality during the National Cheer & Dance Association camp June 10-13 at Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau.
Among the accolades, the Pom Squad brought home an award for most improved performance, the spirit stick and a silver plaque for team dance routine. A total of seven squads from Missouri competed.
"As their coach, I was extremely proud of their work ethic and their dedication to the team," said Varsity Pom Squad Coach Cindy Robertson, a fourth grade teacher at Eugene Field Elementary. "We are looking forward to a new school year and supporting the Mules in every way we can!"

Lake Road recognized at state institute
During the eighth annual Schoolwide Positive Behavior Support Summer Training Institute on Wednesday, June 12, at Tan-Tar-A Resort in Osage Beach, Lake Road Elementary School earned the bronze award for successful adoption and implementation of the intervention system.

PBJHS visits U.S. Capitol
Poplar Bluff R-I students toured almost every memorial and monument in the Washington, D.C., metro area from May 28-June 1 during the annual eighth grade class trip.
Sightseeing included the Golden Corral; Historic Jamestowne; College of William and Mary; National Archives; Smithsonian; Holocaust Memorial Museum; Pentagon City Hall; Home of George Washington; and the Vietnam Veterans, Korean, Iwo Jima Marine, Lincoln, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and FDR memorials.

Weaver to throw pitch at Cardinals game
Poplar Bluff 5th & 6th Grade Center music teacher Kristy Weaver has been selected by the Missouri Lottery as a "Stars of the Classroom" winner, and will throw the ceremonial pitch during the St. Louis Cardinals game on Saturday, July 6, at Busch Stadium.
The state program features one educator a month who has demonstrated excellence in the classroom, according to the website. Weaver is beginning her eighth year at Poplar Bluff Schools. Last month she took the Honor Choir to sing "God Bless America" before a Cardinals game, which is an annual tradition of the 5th & 6th Grade Center.
"I feel it's a really great opportunity for our young singers, not to mention super exciting," said Weaver, "and [I] am very thankful the Cardinals offer this program to showcase Missouri music programs."

Summer School will run until Monday, June 24.
June Board Meeting
The regularly scheduled monthly school board meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 27, in the Administrative Building.
Long-Range Planning
Long-range planning meetings for the Citizens' Advisory Committee will continue from 6:30-8 p.m. Tuesday, July 9 and 30, at the 5th & 6th Grade Center.
