Parents' Night Out, Courtesy of German Students
Foothill's German students are offering parents one glorious child-free evening during the busy holiday season. Drop off your kids on Saturday, Dec. 8 at Foothill's multipurpose room from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. for the Kinder Nacht (Children's Night) hosted by the German American PartnershipProgram (GAPP). Use this luxurious free time as you see fit -- holiday shopping, date night or just some quiet time alone. The kids will enjoy an evening of German-style fun. Caring, responsible GAPP students will entertain and delight the kids with German Christmas carols, arts, crafts and age-appropriate games. Adult supervision will be provided, too. You'll get all of this for a mere $25 per-child donation. The evening is open to kids in kindergarten through fifth grade. Kids will also be treated to a pizza dinner and snacks. Advance reservations required. Space is limited, so sign up right away by e-mailing German teacher Frau Fleming at hfleming@pleasantonusd.net. Your donation will support GAPP, a nonprofit exchange program between U.S. and German schools. Please share this info with any families you know that have grade-school kids. |

Book Fair and Library Resources: "The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more you learn, the more places you'll go."
- Dr. Seuss, "I Can Read With My Eyes Shut!" Books have the power to benefit our children in a variety of ways. As a parent, reading to your child and enriching them with books is one of the most important things you can do to prepare them with a foundation for academic excellence. This school year the Donlon PFC, made up of parents and faculty, will support our Donlon Community in promoting literacy in multiple ways.
We will host two book fairs through Scholastic, with 25% of the sales going back to Donlon as cash donation to our general fund. Our first book fair was a huge success, with approximately 2,100 books sold, $2,696 raised for Donlon. Additionally 260 books were purchased for our teachers and library with 'Scholastic Dollars' earned at our last book fair
The PFC has paid for an additional one hour per day of staff time to support the Donlon Library for the 2012/2013 school year, which was previously allocated only four hours per day from PUSD.
This could not have been done without the support of the PFC and all of the families that purchased books at the book fair. Thank you Donlon PFC!

Vote Daily To Help Donlon Win $50,000
Clorox Grant for Donlon Technology
Donlon Elementary was nominated for a Power a Bright Future grant from The Clorox Company in hopes of securing up to $50,000 in funding for a new and improved Computer Lab.
The only way for Donlon to win the top $50,000 grant is by popular vote. That means the Donlon community must begin voting daily, based on the rules set forth by Clorox.
1. Click here to vote online for Donlon.
2. Text Donlon's code, 2159pbf, to 95248. (Text and data charges may apply. You must be at least 13 years old to vote by text.)
You can also help with simple acts like:
Posting on Facebook to encourage your friends and family to vote.
Tweeting the link to our voting page so your followers can vote.
Donlon is entered in the Explore category, but there are three different categories for funding - Play, Create & Explore. The school that receives the most votes overall will be awarded the $50,000 grand-prize grant and the next top vote-getters in each of the three categories will be awarded a $25,000 grant. Then, Clorox judges will also select three lucky schools (one in each category) to win a $25,000 judge's choice grant.
Voting continues through December 19th.
Everyone can vote twice daily -- once online and once by text -- so please vote each and every day. Share Donlon's link and text code with everyone you know and ask them to vote daily, too. There's a lot of money on the line so help spread the word! Please contact Michelle Lemus at chellelemus@comcast.net with any questions.

5th Graders: We Need Your Baby Photos!
Dear 5th Grade Parents,
The Donlon Yearbook Committee is well underway and that means it's time to begin collecting the always favorite baby photos for all 5th grade students.
For those of you who don't know what this is, each year in the Donlon Yeabook we include baby photos of all of the 5th grade students. Then, we have a guide so people can try to guess which students match up with which photos. It is very cute and a favorite among Donlon students!
Now here's where you come in! We need one baby photo for each student. You can choose any shot you want-please just make sure it is something your child would be proud to have in the yearbook and will look back on this picture with fond memories for years to come.
5th grade mom Cathy Cruz will be collecting the photos. You may send them to Cathy in the following ways:
- email a high resolution photo (as a JPG) to: cruzermom66@yahoo.com Sorry, JPGs only accepted (no GIF, PDF, etc.)
Please put your child's name and 5th grade baby pic in the subject line.
All photos must be submitted to Cathy Cruz no later than December 12.
If you have questions regarding the 5th grade baby photos, please e-mail Cathy Cruz at cruzermom66@yahoo.com.
