Greetings!
What a busy fall it has been! I'm back from leading two photo tours in Mexico - Day of the Dead in Oaxaca and The Mayan World in Chiapas. Both tours were great successes. I'm offering both trips again next year (see listings below). The 2013 Day of the Dead trip filled up within 24 hours of the release, but there is how actually one space available.
Karl is one his way back from Asia, having recently completed leading our inaugural Nepal / Bhutan photo tour and the India: Pushkar Camel Fair & Taj Mahal trip. He also found time to scout some inside stuff for his Philippines tour. See his blog for the latest.
Meanwhile, Ralph is out scouting new trips after leading his Mexico's Copper Canyon tour to rave reviews. He'll be running that trip again in August 2013 - space is still available - see tour info below under the "Summer Tours" heading. We hope you have a great holiday season! Cheers, Jim |

Take a visual journey to Baja
2013 Baja Calendar featuring Jim's photos
For more than a year, Jim and his friend, Jim Hendricks, have been working on a calendar to highlight the beauty of the Baja Peninsula. The result is a beautiful 11x14 sized art calendar. In addition to the photos, each month includes a paragraph or two written by Jim (Cline) about the area featured that month. Jim's love of Baja is evident throughout. To purchase your copy, click on the photo. The price is only $15.95. These make great Christmas gifts. Go to www.TheBajaCalendar to order yours.

Peru - Machu Picchu & the
Sacred Valley of the Incas
May 8 - 18, 2013 with Jim Cline - ONLY 1 SPACE LEFT!
Long before the Europeans showed up in America the Incas had established a great civilization in and around the Sacred Valley of Peru. Many reminders of this world still remain - in the ancient ruins at such sites as Machu Picchu, Pisac, and Ollantaytambo, and in the local people and their traditions. In addition to these more traditional sites, we'll visit various towns on market days which will provide numerous opportunities to photograph the modern day Inca and their old world traditions. No doubt you'll come away from this trip with the experience of a lifetime and great photos of a wide variety of incredible subjects. The Philippines
June 1 - 15, 2013 with Karl Grobl
The Philippines is a great place to escape the multitudes who descend upon other parts of Southeast Asia. It boasts a fantastic landscape including its amazing Rice Terraces (called by many the 8th Wonder of The World), colonial architecture and even palm-fringed, white-sand beaches on a scale and beauty that one might have expected to find in Hawaii decades ago. Beyond the scenic beauty, you'll find it's the Filipinos themselves who make the country such a joy to visit. Photo friendly and full of smiles, the people open themselves and their lives to visitors on a scale only matched by places like India and Myanmar.

Mexico's Copper Canyon
August 16 - 25, 2013 with Ralph Velasco
Ralph Velasco will again be leading this trip to Mexico's magical Copper Canyon. The Copper Canyon train is considered one of the great train rides of the world. Located in the Sierra Madre Mountains, it includes 37 bridges and 86 tunnels along throughout the route. You'll explore and photograph the areas around the rim of the canyon in the towns of Creel and Divisadero, and photograph the famous Tarahumara Indians who inhabit the area, and document their way of life. You'll also journey down inside the Canyon to the charming town of Urique located 6,000 feet below the rim of the canyon.

November 10 - 23, 2013 with Ralph Velasco
The Kingdom of Bhutan is a small country nestled in the cradle of the Himalayas, the highest mountains on earth. Unknown and mostly unvisited until the 1960's Bhutan, known as the "Land of the Thunder Dragon", provides the intrepid photographer with a unique and fascinating variety of photographic and cultural experiences. Nepal is where the ice-cold Himalayas meet the steamy heat of the Indian plains. It's a land of yaks and yetis, stupas and Sherpas and the home of three great mini-kingdoms of the Kathmandu Valley - Kathmandu, Patan and Bhaktapur.
This will be a photo tour of amazing opportunities and experiences. We hope you decide to come along.

Chiapas, Mexico: The Mayan World
November 12 - 21. 2013 with Jim Cline
Chiapas is an area little know by outsiders that is rich in natural resources, yet many of it's inhabitants, descendants of the ancient Maya, are among the poorest in Mexico. It's a fascinating, exciting place to visit, with wildly beautiful landscapes, rich and mysterious indigenous cultures, the colonial charm of the town of San Cristobal de las Casas, and exotic Mayan ruins.

"Joan and I want to thank you for "orchestrating" a great trip to Guatemala. As I mentioned at the dinner, the trip was much, much better than we had initially expected. The combination of your knowing the people, good hotels, good meals all contributed to a very nice photo trip."
~George Saba, Guatemala tour participant |

"I just returned late last nite from Burma - it was a wonderful trip - Karl Grobl was the best photo leader I've ever had - he taught me so much about photography. You are very lucky to have him working for your company. Also, our guide in Burma, MM was great - I will recommend your trips to everyone I know."
~Maureen McGettigan, Myanmar tour participant

"I wanted to thank you and Karl for putting together such phenomenal trip to Vietnam. I am so excited about my pictures and I have been able to produce shots I never imagined I could. Karl was so on-target with teaching all of us new ways to use the camera and it made the experience so enjoyable."
~Anietra Hamper, Vietnam tour participant

"It was such a great trip in every way and you were such a perfect leader. I do feel that I have a small inking of what Peru or the slice of Peru that we were in is like. Six weeks after return I wish I was there again. We really did become a caring and cohesive group due to your fine leadership...Thanks again for leading such a great trip. I think I did learn a little more about taking pictures. "
~Nadine Hayman, Peru tour participant
|
"I would you recommend this trip to others without question. Photo ops were generally super. Very interesting country, people generally very open to being photographed. Very different from other places I have been."
~Bob Newman, Philippines tour participant
|
"I have to give you [Karl] a TON of credit, my photographs are so hugely improved after your course (Angkor Photo Workshop), like night and day, I still cannot thank you enough for putting together such an amazing Cambodia program."
~Jenny Krasner, Angkor Photo Workshops participant |
"I want to let you know how much fun we had on the Copper Canyon tour. Ralph was a great leader and got us to a lot of interesting places...The train ride was relaxing and shooting out the backs of the cars gave us many opportunities to capture the small stations along the route. The Tarahumara people are especially colorful to photograph and their handicrafts were beautiful and inexpensive... I hope that next year that the tour participants will have as great of time as we did."
~Ed Fitzgerald, Copper Canyon participant

"Jim went above and beyond what is expected from a leader. I knew he was special just from the many emails he sent before the trip. He is truly a professional. Because of his connections I probably got to see more than most people do when they visit for the Day of the Dead. There were many magical moments on this trip...I would recommend every trip that Jim leads."
~Phyllis Hartzel, Oaxaca tour participant

"This is my second time traveling with you (Jim), and, as before, I had a MARVELOUS time. Your planning and execution of the itinerary is EXCELLENT. Your knowledge of the area and the personal relationships with the people there truly make your trips exceptional. I loved walking down the street at night, in the dark! I'll look forward to traveling with you again at some point in time. I always highly recommend you to anyone with interest in the areas that you visit. And, another thing I forgot to mention the night we all gave our impressions to you, is how generous you are. It all adds up to a truly enjoyable travel and photographic experience.
Thank you!"
~Rita Florea, Chiapas tour participant |
"[Karl was] excellent as usual. He knows the turf and knows the people.Very helpful with any photography questions.Dee Vee is a terrific guide-taking care of us travelers and has a great knowledge of India and its history and culture."
