Little girls grow into beautiful women who like PRETTY THINGS! I sort of envision myself an Angelina Jolie 'Lara Croft-esque' type of girl meets Josephine Baker. Able to open up a can of 'whop-ass' if need be, but I'd rather be spreading my 'fairy dust' around the globe!
Women generally have no problem rewarding themselves with treats n' trinkets, and I encourage it! I believe the rule of thumb is spend the first 10% on yourself, save some for future goals and pay bills with the rest, but don't quote me, ask Suze Orman!
As you spring clean, add a splash of color to your world! You'd be amazed what a can of paint can do to a room! Colors color our mood, our perspective-for better or worse. What colors inspire you?
Well, I gotta tell you, BLUE is my favorite color, cobalt or Mediterranean blue to be exact. It soothes me. RED is my fiery color for power and sensuality. BLACK is my power color for CONTROL! WHITE is my 'num-nyo-ho ryenga-kyo'-my mystic sage, my Tibetan monk color. ORANGE is my salsa-fiesta color, it stimulates my appetite, my party spirit, hence why it's the color of my kitchen!
Certain elements color my world as well, I love wood, wicker, woven baskets, etc. It feels earthy, real and healing. Glass and silver remind me of infinity and contemporariness and gold is classic, the universal standard.
I've had my retro period with BLACK & WHITE with RED accents, my 'school daze' i.e. bare essentials, my 'safe' days-monochromatic beige, now I'm in my warmth and comfort-I-know-who-I-am-(today) phase, really, it's all fun! And I can't wait to see what the next period of my life will reveal.
Use color and texture to color your world, surround yourself with the PRETTY THINGS you love and treasure, and create little shrines around your house of your favorite candles, your favorite fragrances, seasonings, music, and the people you love. This is what your home should be, a tribute to everything you are! |

Is Every Fad for You?
Eyelash extensions, long-lasting lipstick | eyelash PERMING?
Okay, we all love playing with makeup. We love the way it makes us look and feel, but what price are we willing to pay for beauty?
'Makeup is designed to enhance your personal beauty, not become it' says ANIKA INTERNATIONAL COSMETICS founder, Anika Robbins. 'Cosmetics users have to take charge of their personal beauty regimen and design a system of products, tools and looks that work for them." She says.
The latest trend of eyelash extensions has swept the globe as women everywhere spend $30-$60 to have miniature 'eyelash weave' added to their lash line for a fuller, dramatic effect. In London, eyelash perming is also a current trend.
"Eyelashes can be a great way to create definition and drama with minimal makeup", but women would be wise not to overuse this trend, "I've seen too many of the old guard makeup artists who now HAVE to wear false lashes because they no longer have their own," says Robbins.
She recommends the more traditional eyelash strip where they can be applied for special occasions and then promptly removed before going to bed. She recommends using individual lashes minimally and for shorter periods of time. Examples of fun eyelash styles are available at www.aicosmetics.com Long wearing lipstick:
Like sliced bread, women apparently no longer have time or want to be bothered with taking the 3 seconds to reapply their lipstick.
"It's as if a woman wants to make breakfast, get the kids off to school, go to work and brave an earthquake all with her lipstick in tact!" quips Robbins.
While some women feel long-lasting lipsticks are the 'cure', not everyone sings it's praises. Complaints of dryness and flakiness, and trouble removing the product have surfaced.
"After a couple days of washing and brushing, it finally took turpentine to remove the (name brand) long-lasting lipstick," complained one woman.
"Although our lipsticks are highly-pigmented and do wear well and for long periods of time, they are intentionally not designed to last 'forever'" she continues.
"Our body-our skin- is an organ too, it absorbs whatever we put on it; we should not be wearing makeup longer than a normal work day anyway. A good skin care regimen is absolutely necessary to maintain healthy, glowing skin--for always'.
