Greetings!

Torrie 3

Throughout my years at A New Leaf, I've been privileged to oversee numerous service learning, internship, volunteer or study projects from different corporations, universities and colleges. I'm always awed by their helpfulness and generosity and very aware of the significant role they play in helping A New Leaf reach our mission of "Helping Families...Changing Lives".

This past month, three ASU School of Engineering students, Theresa Franco, Lawrence Johnson and Todd Lineberger put in 160 volunteer hours on a process analysis project. Without a doubt, these students ranked on the high-end of professionalism, dedication and commitment. In fact, they surpassed the analysis we were anticipating and continued on to provide impressive charts, process suggestions and recommendations that we can implement immediately. We want to express our deepest gratitude for their amazing team effort.

So many exciting things are happening at A New Leaf. We're becoming more active within the "social media" arena. It's so much fun and so easy to keep up to date with our community and other organizations.

Be sure to click the links below to check out our Facebook and Twitter pages. Become a fan and keep up with the progress we're making together in helping individuals and families turn over a new leaf.

Stay well and informed.

Sincerely,

Torrie Taj, CFRE
Executive VP of Marketing & Resource Development

Mom Hesitant To Help Herself, But Helps Her Child

Like so many others, Sondra entered A New Leaf's Domestic Violence Shelter in fear of her child's life as well as her own, shaken and hopeless.

Her son, Jonathan was restless, agitated, not sleeping or eating well and both demonstrated symptoms of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

After two months of shelter, group therapy, empowerment, etc, Sondra wrote this inspiring poem.

"I couldn't do it for myself until I recognized

The fear that I lived everyday, lived in my child's eyes

That's when I sought A New Leaf out, grew stronger every day

And felt peace replace the pain that left when we felt safe"

Invest in your child's future sense of self-worth!
Who do your children emulate?

Nothing pushes us closer to tears at, A New Leaf's Development Office, faster than a child's visit to drop off donations for the homeless children living in our shelters.

The encouragement given by the conscientious parents of these little "philanthropists in the making," is admirable. It reflects their understanding of the wisdom in Winston Churchill's words when he said, "We make a living by what we get, we make a life by what we give." It confirms that these insightful parents recognize the value that giving has in the growth of their children's future feelings of self-worth.
