Mom Hesitant to Help Herself, But Never Her Child!
Like so many others, Sondra entered A New Leaf's Domestic Violence Shelter in fear of her child's life as well as her own, shaken and hopeless.
Her son, Jonathan was restless, agitated, not sleeping or eating well and both demonstrated symptoms of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).
After two months of shelter, group therapy, empowerment, etc, Sondra wrote this inspiring poem.
"I couldn't do it for myself until I recognized
The fear that I lived everyday lived in my child's eyes
That's when I sought A New Leaf out, grew stronger every day
And felt peace replace the pain that left when we felt safe"
