Congratulations Martine!
On September 25th, YM-YWHA wrestler Martine Dugrenier won a gold medal at the 2009 World Wrestling Championships in Derning, Denmark. This is her second gold medal at the World Championships, with the first one earned last year (2008), in Tokyo, Japan. This is also Martine's 5th year in a row making it to the finals of the World Championships. She now has 3 silver and 2 gold medals at the World Championships.
Her results included wins over Mongolia, Azerbaijan (bronze medalist), Ukraine, Japan, and Russia (by a fall in the first round - silver medalist).
Congratulations to Martine and her coaches from the YM-YWHA Reinitz Wrestling Centre on such an outstanding achievement and for all the dedication and hard work to get there! |
Exhibit on Jews of Quebec City Comes to the YM-YWHA Ben Weider JCC
Are you wondering about the exhibit in the YM-YWHA Ben Weider JCC's Hall of Honour? It's called "Same Cloth, Different Threads: The Jews of Quebec City, 1608-2008," and it traces the 400-year history and cultural contribution of Quebec City's Jewish community. We're thrilled to be the first organization to host the exhibit in Montreal!
Individuals and groups are invited to visit, free of charge, through the end of November. For visiting groups, we are pleased to provide French or English-speaking tour guides, as well as a one-hour French television documentary prepared by Astral Media. To arrange a group visit, please contact Sara Miller at 514-737-8628 ext. 258, or smiller@ymywha.com. To learn more about the exhibit, see the CTV News report by Debra Arbec. |
Improving Your Member Experience: Repairs to Men's Health Club Steam Room and Shower Facilities
At the YM-YWHA we are always working to improve your member experience. In parallel with building the new Ben Weider Fitness Centre of Excellence, we are undertaking repairs to the men's health club steam room and shower facilities at the Ben Weider JCC. Beginning October 14th at noon, the showers and steam room will be closed for 4 days while we perform repairs to the tiles. During this time, the men's general locker room facilities are available for use.
In the coming weeks, we will also begin repairs to the general men's locker room shower facilities, floor tiles, and replacement of the sink counter tops. We are doing our best to minimize the impact on our members, and we apologize for any inconvenience during the renovations.

Protect Yourself and Others from Influenza A(H1N1)
Did you know that the virus of human influenza, including seasonal influenza, influenza A(H1N1) or any pandemic influenza virus, can easily be transmitted by:
- Droplets from the nose or mouth of an infected person who coughs or sneezes, projecting them up to a metre (three feet) away;
- Touching a contaminated person, when kissing or shaking hands, for instance;
- Touching objects contaminated by that person, like a piece of cloth, a handkerchief or dishes;
- Touching contaminated hard surfaces and then touching your nose, mouth or eyes. The surface could be a table or desk, of course, but also a telephone, a doorknob, a handrail or a computer keyboard, where the virus can remain active for 24 to 48 hours.
Click here to learn the latest about what you need to know, and what you need to do to protect yourself and others. |
