Over the course of my 20-year career as a radio talk show host, I've met and interviewed a lot of fascinating people.  Many of them are household names which you would recognize instantly. 


Tom Snyder, the 46-year-old owner of the regional Colonial Life Insurance office here in Garden Ridge, has got to be one of the most intriguing people I've met in a long time.  He's not famous.  He's not a political leader.  And he hasn't even written a book.
 
But he's spearheading a unique Christian ministry in our own backyard whose vision is as big as the Texas sky.



Now that he has become a successful businessman, Tom, a member of River City Community Church here in San Antonio, has a passion to give back to the community - especially to the children in demonstrable, life-changing ways.  


That's why he founded Trinity Oaks, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization.  At the heart of the ministry are the youth hunts for 10 to 16-year-olds.  Throughout their time, the young people experience firearms safety instruction, target shooting and actual big game hunting.

In the process, Tom wants to give the tweens and teens access to the great outdoors, to build their character, and to teach them the importance of responsibility in our narcissistic culture. 

"Our goal with youth is three-fold.  First, we want to teach kids that hunting is not just about 'killing animals', but also about building relationships and enjoying God's majestic outdoors.  Second, we want to promote our country's hunting heritage to future generations," said Tom Snyder.  
 
"Third and most importantly, we want to show children of all ages that they have value and let them know there are people who care about them, people willing to listen to them and mentor them.  We have found you can really reach a child and make a difference in his life just by sitting next to a campfire and listening to what he has to say."

During the 2010/2011 hunting season alone, Tom personally acted as the lead field guide for every one of the 20 youth hunts attended by 85 young people, 53 of whom were first-time hunters.  Typically, each hunt is comprised of 3-5 youngsters along with their fathers and some volunteer guides. Each youth is assigned to an adult. 

Their goal for the upcoming 2011/2012 hunting season is to have 30 youth hunts attended by 100 kids and 75 first-time children hunters.


Amazingly, Trinity Oaks covers every single expense including the cost of transportation, the lease of the land, the hunting license fees as well as the food, lodging and the mounting of the child's wildgame trophy.
 
All the meat is processed for free by volunteers, ground up and frozen into family packs.  It's then distributed to needy families and homeless shelters throughout San Antonio as well as orphanages in Mexico.

MUSLIM IMAM SET TO LEAD PRAYER TO FALSE GOD FOR SAN ANTONIO CITY COUNCIL!

On Thursday, December 8, 2011 at 9:00 a.m., San Antonio Muslim Imam Omar Adib Shakir from the Masjid Bilal mosque will lead Mayor Julian Castro and the San Antonio City Council in prayer to the false god of Allah, the moon god.

SAN ANTONIO IS EXPECTING HARD FREEZES TUESDAY, WEDNESDAY, 12/6-12/7

A hard freeze is expected Tuesday night, when temperatures are expected to drop to the 20s, according to the National Weather Service.

NWS Forecaster Clay Anderson said Tuesday's high in the upper 40s will take place in the early evening, and skies will continue to clear as the temperatures fall, dropping to a chilly 28 degrees about 7 a.m. Wednesday. Winds Tuesday afternoon and evening will be between 10 and 15 mph, the NWS said, with gusts up to 25 mph.

TEXAS MAN KILLED IN CRASH WITH SCHOOL BUS

A driver speeding on Texas 16 was killed early Monday when his car clipped a school bus full of students as he tried to pass it, causing both vehicles to collide with a pickup, officials said.

 

Two men in the pickup were seriously injured and the bus, minus its front axle, came to a stop upright in a ditch. The 44 students on the bus were not seriously hurt.

WOMAN DENIED FOOD STAMPS KILLS SELF, SHOOTS CHILDREN

A woman in the border city of Laredo, Texas who was angry because she had been denied food stamps killed herself and shot and critically wounded her two children late on Monday, authorities said on Tuesday.

The 38-year-old woman entered the Texas Health and Human Services Commission office in downtown Laredo on Monday afternoon and demanded to speak to a supervisor, said investigator Joe Baeza of the Laredo Police Department.

Huntsman: Signed abortion restrictions into law as governor, favors constitutional abortion ban.

Paul: Says federal government should have no authority either to legalize or ban abortion. Yet signed pledge to advance only anti-abortion appointees for relevant administration jobs, cut off federal dollars for clinics that perform or finance abortions, and support a ban on abortions after the fetus reaches a certain stage in development.

Perry: Now supports constitutional abortion ban after saying states should decide their own laws on such issues. Backed Texas law that attempts to discourage abortions by making doctors describe the fetus' size limbs and organs to the woman, and make available an image of the fetus and the sound of its heartbeat to her, before she can have the procedure.

Romney: Opposes abortion rights. Previously supported them. Says state law should guide abortion rights, and Roe v. Wade should be reversed by a future Supreme Court. But says Roe vs. Wade is law of the land until that happens and should not be challenged by federal legislation seeking to overturn abortion rights affirmed by that court decision. Would not sign pledge to advance only anti-abortion appointees for relevant administration jobs, cut off federal dollars for clinics that perform or finance abortions, and support a ban on abortions after the fetus reaches a certain stage in development. "So I would live within the law, within the Constitution as I understand it, without creating a constitutional crisis. But I do believe Roe v. Wade should be reversed to allow states to make that decision."

Santorum: Favors constitutional abortion ban and opposes abortion even in cases of rape because "I would absolutely stand and say that one violence is enough." Previously supported right to abortion in cases of rape, incest and to save the life of the mother.

Before Republicans put Newt Gingrichat the top of their party, they should consider what happened the last time he led it.


In the mid-1990s, Gingrich was the de facto head of theRepublican Party. He helped lead it to victory in the congressional elections of 1994, which brought about real accomplishments such as welfare reform. But once he attained power, both his popularity and that of his party started to plummet. In the aftermath of his leadership, a Republican was able to take the presidency only by pointedly distancing himself from Gingrich.

NEWT MISLEADING ON FAIRNESS DOCTRINE? CLAIMS TO VOCALLY OPPOSE, BUT SPONSORED ORIGINAL BILL

Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich was one of the sponsors of the Fairness in Broadcasting Act of 1987, which would have turned the controversial so-called Fairness Doctrine into law.


Gingrich's official campaign website, however, states the politician opposes the doctrine.
A section of Newt.org entitled "Answering the attacks," states: "Newt does not support the Fairness Doctrine and he has been vocally critical of the left's efforts to reinstate the doctrine over the past decade, including supporting Mike Pence's bill that prohibited government censorship in radio in 2007."

Jon Huntsman would do better in an election against President Obama than Rick Perry would.


That's the latest news from a Rasmussen poll released today and taken over Dec. 4-5, which shows Obama earning 46 percent support among Republicans nationwide to Perry's 34 percent. That's the first Rasmussen matchup that gives the president a double-digit lead over Perry. In November, Obama's lead was nine points-but before the GOP debates, Perry held a three-point advantage over the president, with 44 percent support to Obama's 41 percent.

ATHEIST DISPLAY: SKELETON SANTA NAILED TO A CROSS

The skeleton in a Santa suit didn't survive for long outside the Loudoun County courthouse lawn, but it generated plenty of controversy in Leesburg, Va.


The skeleton was nailed to a cross on Monday by a mother and son associated with an atheist group, one of the nine approved displays for the Christmas season. But the macabre Kris Kringle was not standing for long. Someone tore the skeleton down, sparking a debate about free speech.

MORE HYPODERMIC NEEDLES FOUND HIDDEN IN CLOTHING AT WALMART IN GEORGIA

Police are continuing to recover hypodermic needles that have been hidden inside garments at a Walmart in Georgia.

Yesterday morning, Bartow County Sheriff's Office deputies again arrived at the store in Cartersville, this time in response to a shopper discovering a syringe inside a pocket in a pair of men's pajamas (seen at right). The woman who found the needle was not stuck, according to a sheriff's report.

Democrats don't like Discovery's Deadliest Catch. But they swoon for NBC's Parks and Recreation.


Those are a few of the findings from an annual research survey by Experian-Simmons that measures the consumer preferences of various political ideologies. In a report prepared exclusively for EW, the company calculated some of the favorite - and least favorite - TV shows of political partisans.

(Specifically: the report measures which shows among the survey group were watched by the highest concentration of self-identified "Liberal Democrats" and "Conservative Republicans.")

With age come such things as catheters, colostomy bags and adult diapers. Now add another indignity to getting old - having to drop your pants and show these things to a complete stranger.

Two women in their 80s put the Transportation Security Administration on the defensive this week by going public about their embarrassment during screenings in a private room at John F. Kennedy International Airport. One claimed she was forced to lower her pants and underwear in front of an agent so that her back brace could be inspected. Another said agents made her pull down her waistband to show her colostomy bag.

TEEN RUNAWAYS FOUND AT OCCUPY NEWARK

Two young runaways from Massachusetts were found living with Occupy Newark Protesters in Military Park. The Newark, N.J. police department was alerted to the 13-year-old boy and 14-year-old girl by a lawyer for the protest group.

The pair arrived at Military park on Sunday and camped overnight with protesters. The teens reportedly ran away from their homes during the early morning hours on December 4, 2011 and made their way to Newark.

DANA PERINO: OBAMA'S 17-DAY HAWAII VACATION 'LOOKS BAD'

ACLU BLOCKS CHOOSE LIFE LICENSE PLATES

The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) has managed to block North Carolina from issuing license plates with a "Choose Life" message because the state legislature declined to also issue "Choose Death" plates.

U.S. District Judge James Fox didn't put it that way in his Nov. 28 injunction, but he did agree with the ACLU that the absence of an opposing plate violates the First Amendment. The problem arose because lawmakers refused to authorize the "Respect Choice" plate that Planned Parenthood wanted as part of its ongoing culture of death.

GEORGE ORWELL'S MAN IN THE WHITE HOUSE

As I heard Barack Obama and his propaganda minister, Jay Carney, endorsing tax cuts as a vehicle for economic growth, I was reminded, again, of George Orwell's "1984" and the striking similarities between his Oceania and the American left's vision for America.

Oceania's Big Brother regime had "four Ministries between which the entire apparatus of government was divided," the Ministry of Truth, the Ministry of Peace, the Ministry of Love and the Ministry of Plenty. Each department was dedicated to the opposite principle suggested by its title. "Truth" disseminated lies. "Peace" promoted war. "Love" enforced uniformity of thought. And "Plenty" manipulated the economy to impoverish the people while enriching the ruling class. God was expelled and absolute truth abolished, while "doublespeak" was promoted.

CARNEY ON CONGRESSIONAL VOTE TO REPEAL SODOMY, BESTIALITY: 'LET'S GET SERIOUS'

Jay Carney, Barack Obama's White House press secretary, apparently believes some of the actions in the U.S. Senate aren't serious. Or at least questions about them should be ignored.


At today's White House news briefing, he responded, "Let's get to something more serious," instead of answering a question about a Senate vote on the repeal of sodomy and bestiality.

The action was documented by Alan Colmes on his "Presents Liberaland" website, where he noted that the defense authorization bill would repeal Article 125 of the Uniform Code of Military Justice.

CLAIM: CLINTON COLLECTED $50K PER MONTH FROM MF GLOBAL

A former MF Global employee accused former president William J. Clinton of collecting $50,000 per month through his Teneo advisory firm in the months before the brokerage careened towards its Halloween filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

U.S. TO USE FOREIGN AID TO PROMOTE GAY RIGHTS

The Obama administration is announcing a wide-ranging effort to use U.S. foreign aid to promote rights for gays and lesbians abroad, including combating attempts by foreign governments to criminalize homosexuality.

In a memorandum issued Tuesday, President Barack Obama directed U.S. agencies working abroad, including the State Department and the U.S. Agency for International Development, to use foreign aid to assist gays and lesbians who are facing human rights violations. And he ordered U.S. agencies to protect vulnerable gay and lesbian refugees and asylum seekers.

LIBRARY OF CONGRESS TO RECEIVE ENTIRE TWITTER ARCHIVE

The Library of Congress and Twitter have signed an agreement that will see an archive of every public Tweet ever sent handed over to the library's repository of historical documents.

"We have an agreement with Twitter where they have a bunch of servers with their historic archive of tweets, everything that was sent out and declared to be public," said Bill Lefurgy, the digital initiatives program manager at the library's national digital information infrastructure and preservation program. "The archives don't contain tweets that users have protected, but everything else - billions and billions of tweets - are there."

SEEKING WORK? ALLIGATOR HUNTERS WANTED

State wildlife officials are looking to hire alligator trappers in Martin and Palm Beach counties to help remove alligators in developed areas.
