Saving Time and Money
|
A young woman from the Turks and Caicos Islands called ORNOA after learning she needed a gynecological procedure right away for her pre-cancerous condition. Her self-funded plan from her employer would only pay for a limited amount.
ORNOA Patient Navigators arranged for a top surgical gynecologist in Miami to review her case. A treatment plan was established to keep costs down. Pre-surgery lab work was done in Provo, TCI, and the surgery was performed at an outpatient surgical centre in Miami. The surgeon and anesthesia fees were discounted. And the lady was able to get her surgery quickly and received a 62% discount over customary prices. Her boss, impressed with the savings, paid for the surgery and her round trip tickets to/from Miami.
ORNOA helps those in need of medical referrals and provides assistance with insurance, self pay prices, benefits and other administrative issues.

Good Health is a Family Affair
|
Good health is achieved through prevention, not reaction. We wait until we detect something wrong before deciding to go to the doctor. If our insurance does not cover it, and we have to pay - we don't go. If the doctor cannot give us an appointment when we want it, or if his/her office is not conveniently located - we don't go. In truth, our health belongs to the entire family. And so collectively, families need to remind and encourage preventive action. Of all the preventive measures within our reach, none is as important or as cost-effective as getting a physical exam. We encourage everyone to visit their local family practice physician, and get a routine check-up. Give your doctor just 1 hour and your family years of health.
Some folks because of age, health status or family history may need a more comprehensive physical. Executive Physicals can uncover conditions missed by a routine medical exam. Leading edge medical technology used for diagnostic testing can focus on weak areas. These exams can detect early health problems, in time to take corrective action and avoid pain, cost and premature death. Diseases such as heart problems, diabetes, and cancer can be managed more effectively if detected early. Executive Physical exams may include:
- Heart scans (calcium Scoring)
- Cardiac CTA (Angiogram)
- Cardiac MRI
- Colonoscopy (Virtual and Optical)
- Echo Stress Test
- Nuclear Stress Test
- Pulmonary Function Test
- Lung Scan
- Electrocardiogram (EKG)
- Abdominal Aortic Ultrasound
- Caratoid IMT
- Berkeley Heart Lab
- Breast Ultrasound, Digital Mammogram, Mammogram MRI
- Prostate Exam
When you visit an ORNOA physician for an Executive Physical you get high quality exams that are suitable specifically to you.

| Daily Coffee May Lower Risk of Skin Cancer |
The latest research studied 113,000 adults (73,000 women, 40,000 men). Followed for over 20 years, 25,000 cases of skin cancer were diagnosed. The researchers learned that women who drank more than 3 cups of coffee a day had a 20% lower risk of developing basal cell carcinoma, compared to women who drank less than 1 cup of coffee a month. For men, the risk was 9% lower.
Decaffeinated coffee was not part of the study, and the more coffee consumed the lower the risk. Why this research is important: the researchers are not advising non-coffee drinkers to start drinking coffee. Some evidence suggests that having one type of skin cancer makes other cancers more likely. If there is a shared-risk factor the research could lead to stronger preventive studies taking place. At this point little is known about what organic component in coffee specifically lowers the risk.

The Leone Center for
Orthopedic Care
|
 | |
William Leone, MD, Board Certified Orthopedic Surgeon
|
Dr. William Leone, Orthopedic Surgeon, has joined ORNOA. For the past 20 years he has helped thousands of patients around the world and today his practice focuses exclusively on solving complex hip and knee problems, including hip and knee replacement surgery. He is the inventor of the Pelvic Alignment Level, (PAL) a device that allows surgeons to achieve a greater level of implant precision when performing hip replacement. Greater accuracy during surgery leads to lower revision rates, less inconvenience for the patient and lower medical costs.

His passion for orthopedic work continues to be recognized by the medical community; notably he was recently featured in the New York Times as one of "America's Top Doctors," and designated a Florida "Top Orthopedic Surgeon" for the second year in a row by Castle Connolly Medical Ltd., an independent health-care research firm. He is a published author, most recently with an article in the Journal of Arthroplasty, the official journal of the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons. All patients receive as minimally invasive surgery (MIS) as possible, emphasizing precise component positioning, meticulous soft tissue handling and closure. This results in less soft tissue trauma and as rapid a recovery as possible. In the last five years, Dr. Leone has performed more than 3,000 joint replacements. According to Premier, the largest benchmarking comparative data service in the country, his complication rate is three times less and his readmission rate is three times less than peer orthopedic surgeons throughout the country.
We are excited to be working with Dr. Leone. He successfully integrates his high level skills as a surgeon with a high level of personal attention. Our patients appreciate the time he spends with them, the calm office environment and the fact he speaks in simple terms. Factors which improve communication, reduce anxiety, fear and pain which too often are associated with orthopedic care.
