NEA President Reg Weaver and Former HUD Secretary
Henry Cisneros to Headline USHLI Annual Dinner |
USHLI will celebrate its Annual Dinner on Thursday, August

Reg Weaver is president of the National Education
Association, the nation's largest professional employee union with 3.2 million
members. He also serves as vice president of Education International, a
348-member organization representing more than 29 million teachers and
education workers in 169 countries. President Weaver has earned two degrees and
has received three honorary doctorates. He has received numerous awards and
will receive a special award at the USHLI Annual Dinner.
Henry Cisneros has served as a member of the San
Antonio City Council, as Mayor of San Antonio, and was appointed Secretary of
Housing and Urban Development by former President Bill Clinton. He is currently
president of American CityView, with offices in San Antonio
and Los Angeles.
Secretary Cisneros has earned three degrees, including a doctorate, and has
received 25 honorary doctorates.

USHLI/Freddie Mac Partnership Serves 2,596
Participants. USHLI Conducts 12 CreditSmart
Espaņol Seminars in July. |

USHLI conducted 12 CreditSmart Espaņol seminars in July, serving 486 individuals, namely homeowners,
prospective homeowners, immigrants and youth. Click here for pictures.
CreditSmart Espaņol, a curriculum developed by Freddie Mac
in partnership with national Latino organizations including USHLI, is a series
of bilingual financial literacy modules that enable participants to understand
the importance of establishing and maintaining good credit, developing
practical money management skills, and avoiding credit card debt. The newest
module provides very useful information on foreclosure prevention and mortgage
protection.
USHLI has conducted 114
CreditSmart Espaņol seminars since July, 2007, through which 2,596 participants have received
financial literacy education and training. Click here for a list of seminars

Named 21st Century Leaders Intern of the Month
|
Our 21st Century Leaders Intern of the Month for
Cycle I is Anahi Tapia, who registered 423 voters during the
month of July. Anahi is a sophomore student at the University
of Illinois - Chicago, where she is majoring in psychology.
A dedicated student and intern, Anahi has registered 1,786 voters during her internship with USHLI.
Students in our 21st Century Leaders Internship
program have registered 53,889 new voters to date.

USHLI Releases More Demographic Profiles of Latinos - Detroit, Houston, Indianapolis,
Phoenix and San Diego Now Available |
USHLI has compiled the most current information on Latinos
in the 100 largest cities in America
and has now released the first ten demographic profiles in the series.
The profiles provide information pertaining to Latinos by
ancestry, citizenship, voter registration, language preference, housing,
employment, race and national origin, age and gender, voting age population,
median age by race, labor force by race and gender, working age population by
race and national origin, median household income by race and national origin,
age of householder by race and national origin, poverty status by race and
national origin, educational attainment by race and national origin, school
enrollment by race and national origin, veteran status by race and national
origin, women giving birth by age, race, and national origin, food stamps
recipients by race and national origin, and businesses by sales, employees and
payments.
USHLI has been designated as a Census Information
Center by the Bureau of
