Many of you may already be aware that my Uncle, Bishop Earl P. Paulk, Jr., one of the founders of the Cathedral at Chapel Hill, passed from this life and transitioned into his next expression at the stroke of midnight, March 29, 2009. One of the last sermons he preached at the Cathedral was entitled The Sound. It is absolutely amazing to me how "prophetic" the content of this was in light of the direction we are moving in consciousness as a congregation. I feel honored to be "standing on the shoulders of a giant" as I continue to minister in the spirit he created here from the beginning - Whosoever Will. There are no better words than his own. Here are a few excerpts from The Sound: "At the end of the parable of the sower, Jesus cried, 'He who has an ear, let him hear.' Once you lose the ability to hear the sound, you lose the ability to move in things of God." "There have been many events in the past that made a sound for God. The 120 in the Upper Room made a sound. When Martin Luther nailed his 95 theses to the door, that made a sound. Martin Luther King, Jr. made a sound. But we can't let any of these past sounds drown out the sound God is sending out today." "The prelude to the sound of God today took place on the Day of Pentecost. Those people went into that room afraid for their lives. Their leader had just been killed. Once inside, they were baptized with unconditional love and they moved from a religion of fear to one of love. They came out no longer Jew or Gentile. Nothing mattered anymore except the fact that they had heard the sound and that one sound had caused them to lay aside every difference they had." "That same sound is going out today from God. The generation who hears this sound will be a chosen generation. They will be people of a good and noble heart. There is coming a time where the question will no longer be, 'What religion do you belong to?' but 'Did you hear the same sound I heard?' The sound is what will bring all people together." "Like a mighty, rushing wind this sound will encompass the whole world - every denomination, every religion - and will transcend anything you've ever seen. This sound will blow away every barrier of prejudice and hatred. The universe is in God's hands. This great cathedral, which I admire and love, is not the house of God. It only keeps the house. We are the house whether we are twelve or twelve thousand. I know that God is speaking in this house. I know that we're under the right leadership. I know the timing of God is right and that this message is the culmination of all I have been through." |
