The great deception in the Garden of Eden was not that a serpent tricked Eve into eating an apple from a tree. According to Genesis 1:26 Adam and Eve had already been given the image and likeness of God. They had ingested the breath of God, the very essence and Spirit that enables life. Yet the serpent was able to convince them that they needed to "do" something more in order to be like God. This deception was the direct result of the illusion of separation. Beginning in John 1:1 we read "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God... without him nothing was made that has been made. The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us." If Christ created us, aren't we his children since the time he created us? Aren't we his property and his offspring? How then do we, at some later point in life, choose to become a child of God as has become the normal pattern with the Christian salvation experience? For that matter, how do we refuse to be God's child, or in other words reject salvation? Is it even possible? Ephesians 1:3-6 tells us that he chose us to be in him before the foundation of the world. If that be true, then we have always been in him, even long before our physical conception or birth. We do not choose to be in Christ. We only awaken to, and agree with the reality that we belong to Christ and always have. The work of the Devil - if and whatever that is - is to create the illusion that we (or some of us - who have not yet made a decision for Christ and thus have become 'saved') are separate from God. Separation from God is a great deception, and the lie that fuels religion - the search for God. We all flowed from Christ, and we will all flow back to Christ as surely as a salmon returns to his place of origin when it is time for him to change dimensions. Some of us may already be in the stream of Christ. Others of us may be still be out at sea wandering and journeying. Nonetheless, at the appointed time, we will all return to our place of inception; to the Christ. We will all awaken from our sleep. We will all awaken from the illusion of separation. |
