SkillWorks: Green Collar Career Pathways Initiative
Funding

 

In February 2011, SkillWorks Green Jobs Initiative announced the latest round of funding to support the creation of career pathways in green manufacturing, hazardous waste management, energy efficiency administrative support, and recycling and deconstruction.

Green Manufacturing

Action for Boston Community Development (ABCD) received a grant to implement GreenSTREAM: Sustainable Training Resources for Environmentally Advanced Manufacturing.

 

Hazardous Waste Management

JFYNetWorks will utilize planning dollars to deepen and expand employer partnerships and produce an enhanced curriculum based on a hazardous waste management track.

 

Energy Efficiency Administrative Support

Operation A.B.L.E. of Greater Boston received a planning grant to engage sector employers, develop specialized curriculum, and identify the necessary credentials.

 

Recycling and Deconstruction

The Environmental Business Council (EBC) will conduct a Massachusetts labor market study which will include a description of skills, competencies, and training needs for these industries.

  • March 14th: Green Business Development and Job Creation
  • This briefing highlighted three organizations and their efforts to encourage business sustainability initiatives and grow small green business, with a particular focus on the relationship of this work to green job creation.

In the April 11th article, "Training key to Green Jobs," the Boston Herald featured the work of several SkillWorks' green jobs grantees.

 

The article highlights the role of the Chinese Progressive Association (CPA), the Asian American Civic Association (AACA), and JFYNetWorks in preparing participants for good jobs with career pathways that also help save energy.
