BCA Annual Meeting   

Wednesday, May 11, in the Great Room at Old Town Hall    

 

It's always a great party, and this year will be no different: Outstanding food, delightful entertainment, a small exhibit of Dianne Levine's work, your Board's annual update and the election of next year's Board.

2011 BCA Open Studios Scheduled

The weekend of November 5 & 6, noon to 5 pm each day 

 

It may be early to think about holiday shopping, but it's not too early to mark your calendar and save the date for this year's BCA Open Studio Sale on November 5 & 6.

 

As in years past, you'll be amazed by the number of artists living and working in Bedford, and delighted with their level of talent.

 

If you're an artist who'd like to participate or a volunteer who'd like to get involved, please contact Joanna Nickerson (artists) or Maria Green (volunteers).

Wednesday Evening Art Flicks  

Maya Lin: A Strong Clear Vision   

7:30 pm on Wednesday, May 18 

 

Frieda Lee Mock won the 1994 Academy Award for her documentary A Strong Clear Vision about architect Maya Lin, the remarkable 21-year-old architect whose first commission was the game-changing Viet Nam Veterans Memorial in Washington, DC, best known as The Wall.

 

You're invited to join BCA members and friends in a comfortable home cinema here in Bedford, to enjoy drinks, munchies and the film at 7:30 on Wednesday, May 18.  

 

Tickets are $10 each;please contact Sing Hanson to arrange your admission and pay at the door.  Since space is limited, make your reservation early.

Monthly BCA activities for May

 

BCA Poetry Event: Board member Susannah Natti, several local poets and others who appreciate the art of poetry gathered in the BCA space at the end of April. The meeting was deemed a success and there will be a follow-up soon --  watch this space for news of future meetings. 

 

The BCA Photo Group: A non-trivial self-help group for intermediate & advanced photographers, the Photo Group will meet at 7:30 pm on Tuesday, May 3, in the BCA space at Old Town Hall in Bedford. Click here to check on the agenda.


Studio Artists' Breakfast: Join Mary Johannessen and other local studio artists for coffee and conversation at 8 am on Tuesday, May3 in the BCA Space. BYOB (bring your own breakfast) -- Mary's brewing the coffee.  


Third Friday Crafternoons: 
April showers have indeed brought May flowers, and Third Friday crafters will be making colorful paper flowers and wonderful vases to hold them. Drop by for a fun afternoon.

   

Designed for crafty kids and their adults, Third Friday meets in the Bedford Center for the Arts space on the ground floor at Old Town Hall, 16 South Road in Bedford. Prior registration isn't required and there is no fee.  Come as you are and drop in for the fun and crafts on May 20 from 3 to 6 pm.

  

Play-Reading Group: Clarence Day, Jr., wrote Life with Father as a series of humorous autobiographical essays in 1935. The BCA Play-Reading group will bring the Broadway play of the same name to life on Wednesday, May 11 at 1:30 pm.  

 

Group leader Lois Pulliam, and each person in sequence, reads the next speech going around the room thus assuring everyone an equal chance at the good parts as well as the not-so-wonderful ones -- and occasionally matching unlikely voices and characters! NOTE: This group meets in the afternoon (a change from its prior evening meetings) in the BCA space at Old Town Hall. Please click here to let us know that you'd like to participate!  

BCA Members ~ Out & About

Write it Down!, an Introductory writing class taught by BCA member and founding board member Mindy Pollack-Fusi, will take place from 6 to 8 pm on four Tuesdays, beginning on May 3. BCA board member pro tem Liz Rodriguez creates fanciful, colorful and functional tableware, tiles plus a joyous line of custom wedding, anniversary and baby bowls.  Her work will be available at the SOWA Open Market 460 Harrison Avenue, from 10 am to 4 pm on May 1 and 15, and in her Western Avenue studio (A208) during Lowell's Spring Art Thing on Saturday, May 7, from noon to 5 pm (click for directions). Liz's work will also be on sale in New York on Saturday, May 21, at Brooklyn Craft Central's Shop the Archway. And, her work has also been accepted at the prestigious  Paradise City - Marlborough on Thanksgiving weekend! 

 

Michael Milicia and Julie Turner will take part in the 9th Annual First Parish Fine Art Photography Club exhibit and reception to be held at First Parish in Concord, 20 Lexington Road, on Sunday, May 8, from 3:30 to 5:30 pm.

 

Joan Ross will teach Basic Rules for a Taking a Good Picture though the Bedford Recreation Department on Mondays evenings from May 9 through May 23. Contact the Rec Department at 781-275-1392 for details.

The Bedford Library presents Curator's Show 2011, an exhibition of mixed media collage, artist's books, photography, ceramics and a video installation by the members of the library's Arts Steering Committee, the artists who arrange the library's shows.
