Greetings!

Our 2009 main trade show season just completed, and we were able to show our new products and services.  We would like to thank all of our customers who visited us at the various locations (7 shows in 9 weeks across the country); and all of the kind comments you had for our product and team.  It was great to see familiar faces and also meet customers we've worked with for a long time, but haven't had the opportunity to meet.
EasyID Scanner

ID Verification and Data Entry

EasyID scanning has been introduced into SmartPOS (CRE/RPE).  For age-sensitive items such as wine and liquor, SmartPOS can now be configured to verify the age of the customer before authorizing purchase in conjunction with a special Honeywell Bar Code Scanner.  This is accomplished by scanning the bar code on the back of the drivers license, at which point SmartPOS will calculate the age and inform the cashier if the customer is old enough for the purchase.

This is a great way to reduce the liability associated with selling age sensitive products to minors.  You can setup the system with two different age levels.

Easy ID

The scanner can also be used to quickly and accurately capture customer information from the drivers license (such as first and last name, address, city, state, zip and birth date) by scanning the license bar code.  You can add customer information on the fly in seconds.

This feature saves significant time in data entry and data accuracy.  It takes the average person approximately 45 seconds to manually enter license data. In the 2 seconds it takes to scan a license's bar code, EasyID achieves the same result.

We expect in the next few months to have EasyID available with SmartClub for ease in inputting club members.

EasyID States

Uncle SamSales Tax Changes

With these economic times many of our States, Counties and Cities are increasing our sales tax.  Make sure that you change/update your default sales tax in your SmartPOS System.

In SmartClub, go to Utilities, Company Information and change your Tax Rate.  In Shipping Fees, go to the bottom to the Will Call zone and change the Sales Tax percentage accordingly.

In CRE/RPE, go to Options, 4-SetUp, I-Tax Rates and change your Default Sales Tax Rate 1.  If using Area Sales Tax you will need to update any States that you ship to that have had sales tax changes.

Call us if you have any questions.
Tech Tips

SmartClub:  How do I make a member inactive during a wine club run?  If a member wants to be changed to "inactive status" and his charge has NOT been approved, this is a simple task.  Go to the Payments icon, select the Member from the Declined list and Delete him from Payments.  Then you can go to the Member record and change his status to Inactive.  If the Member has already been charged and approved, you can not change his status until the club run is complete.  If necessary, you can refund his purchase through the POS system.

CRE:  How do I reward my employees through a commission plan? In Inventory Maintenance you can select a variety of commission plans, you can select a specific dollar amount, percent of gross profit or percent of gross sales for each inventory item.  An example would be if you had an inventory item called "New Wine Club Member", you could set a specific dollar amount, example $10.00.  As long as you are tracking sales by employee, when the employee signs up a new wine club member, and processes the sales transaction including the inventory item called "New Wine Club Member" he/she will get credit for signing up the new member.  By going to Reporting you can run the Commissions Report, under the Category of Employee and see all the commissions for each employee.
