Hi there!
What glorious weather we've been having... love it! Summer is the hardest time for me to be disciplined... it's almost impossible... The windows are open, and I can hear the boats and families having a great time on the water. A good book, glass of wine and a deck chair in the shade is always right there tempting me.
Good thing that I love to paint, or I'd never get anything done!

Hot Off the Easel!
| |
Here are a couple of new "Orchard" paintings. I'm having fun playing with value contrasts and unusual color combos. I'll have these with me at the "Art Walk" in Frankfort, MI... tomorrow night (Friday, July 8) from 6 until 9pm. I'll be at Maxwell's on Main. Stop in and say "hi!" I always feel the need to give a nod to Bob Burridge with the tree and orchard paintings... While I've done similar things before his workshop... These definitely have his influence. |
Idea Spark-lers |
Inspiration to use in your own creative work....
faces..faces..faces!
Here's another painting warm-up idea...
Begin with a blank sheet of paper, or paper with an all over pattern already painted on it. Negative paint (paint the background, leaving the shape of the portrait)
You can try:
| WIP....Elvis is Not Dead |
- profile view
- full on view
- fat necks
- skinny necks
- big head
- small head
- wild hair-do's
- hats
- non-human colors
- 2 or 3 headed
The sky is the limit!
Below are some examples of my finished portraiture.

2011...What I'm Celebrating... | |
Early in January, I chose a word to use as my theme for the year... It's "Celebrate"...
Here's a link to the explanation, in case you missed it.
This week, I'm Celebrating:
- enthusiastic students at Crystal Lake Art Center!
- a periwinkle colored moth
- the myriad of greens in the woods
- fresh local strawberries
- ice cream
- the honeysuckle bush that I could smell before I could see
- Major... on squirrel patrol
- Ray Lamontagne on Pandora
- picture perfect weather for family and friends gathering over the 4th
- boat-rides
- laughing so hard that I had to change my clothes
- viola being played in our living room
- impromptu viola lessons in our living room
- acoustic guitar played by youngest on the deck
- wicked humor of our oldest (where does he get that sarcasm?)
- Hubby's good humor
- my paintings selling at Synchronicity in Glen Arbor
- laughing toddlers in the kayak
- rain after such a luscious string of days
- Major... can catch the frisbee and return it!
- the three stooges in the row boat
