Hi there!
Over this last week, I've been thinking about what word will serve as my theme for 2011... and no, it's not going to be "procrastination" :)
My word for 2011 is "Celebrate" with a big "C." I'll be honoring the good things that happen, big and small. I'll even be trying to Celebrate the wisdom that comes from the not-so-good things too. Even if it's just a notation in my journal, I want to focus on being a more appreciative Lauren this year...Making sure to count my blessings as well as enjoy hearing about yours. I'll be looking for lightness and joy and the good stuff....and by looking, I know I'll find it.
As a sidenote...Have you noticed the days getting a bit longer? Here in Honor, Michigan... by next weeks newsletter, we will have an additional 13 minutes of sunlight than we do today....and yes, I did procrastinate with writing this to figure it out.
Now that's something to Celebrate! :D

Hot Off the Easel!
| | Today's painting was inspired by a photo in the newspaper...(click here to see scrolling photos...you'll spy the one, I'm sure of it!)
 | "Snow Angels 1" Acrylic on Paper 15 x 11
| I'm still getting back to the swing of things.... When something inspires me (like the newspaper photo)...I follow the impulse and jump in.
Remember... the newspaper photo is copyrighted. I used it as an "idea-sparkler" only. It would not be ok to copy it precisely. That would be violating the photographer's copyright.

Idea Spark-lers
| | Are you in need of some ideas to jump start your painting? Well, you've come to the right place....
Color Charts...easy to start and a great exercise!
Sometimes, we just can't seem to get back to painting after a break... One good way to "baby step" back into a painting routine is to make color charts. Learning to mix the right color at the right time is an invaluable skill... You'll learn so much doing this somewhat tedious exercise.

The beauties pictured above and below were from an intense color workshop (watercolor) I took, years ago...
I still have them... and I still use them...

Things to try....
Take 3 different reds and 3 different yellows and see the variety of oranges you can mix...
Do the same thing with reds and blues; and yellows and blues....
Neutrals? Mix yellows and violets; oranges and blues; and reds and greens....
Make sure you write down what colors you used, and even the brand (colors vary between brands)
Believe me... this is not a waste of paint or time...
Baby step your way back into a painting routine and make giant strides toward understanding your colors.
