Welcome to Sigma Delta Epsilon/Graduate Women in Science!
In 1921, women graduate students from Cornell University formed the first SDE/GWIS chapter, Alpha Chapter, just one year after women won the right to vote. The group was originally formed as a fraternal organization, as an "old girl's club", providing women in science the opportunity to interact in the informal and powerful ways that men in science did. We are currently 600 strong with 15 regional chapters.
The GWIS mission: To advance
the participation and recognition of women in science and to foster
research through grants, awards, and fellowships. Below are archives of our National Newsletter.
Visit our National Website for information about GWIS fellowships, chapter activities, and honorary members. We are United in Friendship through Science and enjoy the camaraderie of other women scientists.
