Greetings,

Downtown Wausau's River District welcomed spring with an infusion of color - the kind of color that comes with new street banners and storefronts that is! Continue reading for all the details.

Color on the Streets

Main Street Wausau would like to thank the City of Wausau for giving our Promotion Committee an opportunity to work with them on developing the new banners recently put up along Washington and 3rd Streets! We sincerely appreciated being able to put our heads together to arrive at a design that is fresh, vibrant and unique!

We would also like to extend a note of thanks to Ann Werth with Community Development and the City for working closely with Main Street Wausau on the placement of eleven banner poles on the near west side that will soon be put in the ground and adorned with the banners pictured above. The poles will be located along Stewart Ave. and 1st Ave. and the banners will add great color to the street scape while visibly extending the "River District" brand to our downtown's near west side as well.

Sidewalk Sales

Thursday, July 7 - Sunday, July 10

Around this time last year, Main Street Wausau gathered a few enthusiastic business owners and managers to brainstorm some fun, new initiatives that were rolled into the District's annual Sidewalk Sales. This year, we invite any interested individuals to join us from 9-10AM on Wed. May 18th in the Main Street office at 316 Scott St. for coffee, donuts and Sidewalk Sale conversation and planning!

Exhibitour

Friday, June 24, 6-8 pm

On June 24th, businesses and organizations in downtown Wausau will turn our District into an art gallery. During Exhibitour, participating businesses transform their storefronts into small art galleries to provide guests a unique opportunity to stroll from store to store to view art, meet featured artists, and enjoy samples of wine and hors d'oeuvres.

Does your business have an interest in participating in this event by hosting an artist or offering a promotion on the night of the event? If yes, please see the attached 2011 Exhibitour Application for additional details.

Contact Dawn at Dawn@MainStreetWausau.org or 715.845.1328 if you plan to attend the Sidewalk Sales Gathering on May 18th or have any questions about participating in Exhibitour.

The Cri By Another Name

It's not everyday a publication changes its name, but that's just what Le Dernier Cri recently accomplished. Often shortened to The Cri, the quarterly publication is dedicated to introducing readers to the wonderful businesses, business owners, and events that make up our downtown community. When you pick up the spring 2011 issue (available now) you'll see the newspaper has officially been renamed as Currents!

A few months ago, The Cri gave its readers a special opportunity to participate in the process of renaming the paper. Currents was suggested by Patti Kittel, owner of PeepShine Children's Clothing and Alterations in Washington Square, and was selected for its ability to capture the downtown spirit of movement and progress while also giving a nod to the significant role the Wisconsin River played in establishing our downtown community.

Studio 7 Consignment  Studio 7 Consignment Logo

Studio 7 opened its doors earlier this month at 515 3rd Street, right next to Janke Book Store. Studio 7 is a consignment boutique featuring gently used name brand clothing, footwear, outerwear, jewelry, accessories & household items.

The store offers pre-teen, and men's and women's clothing and has a growing vintage section. Stop in to see what great finds can come from a consignment boutique, and welcome Erica Reissmann (owner of Studio 7) to downtown Wausau's River District. You can also find Studio 7 online and on facebook

American Indian Resource Center AIRC Logo

Main Street Wausau, Inc. also welcomes the American Indian Resource Center of Marathon County (AIRC) to the District! AIRC is in the process of becoming a nonprofit organization that plans to offer the following: educational services such as youth leadership, after school programs, and tutoring; cultural arts including drumming lessons, beading circles and community awareness; health services such as nutrition and exercise programs; and more. Keep in touch with the organization as it continues to grow in the District by following them on facebook, or checking out their facility located at 319 Fourth Street, in St. Paul's United Church of Christ's Community Center.

See you in the District,

Dawn
