Greetings!

This month we continue our series of newsletters dedicated to describing the four aspects of Main Street Wausau, Inc. by featuring the work of our Organization Committee. We hope you enjoy learning about this Committee just as much as it's Committee members enjoy getting to know you!

Organizing for Success in Downtown Wausau's River District

Main Street Wausau's Organization Committee is committed to building partnerships among various groups that have a stake in developing and maintaining a successful commercial district in downtown Wausau's River District. These groups include business and property owners in and surrounding the River District, government officials, and a variety of other agencies in our community. By getting these groups working together, our program is able to provide effective forms of advocacy and programming that develop downtown Wausau's River District in a way that not only benefits the District, but the community at large. The members of the Organization Committee accomplish this work in a number of ways.

Volunteer Recruitment

Recruiting a diverse group of community members to serve on our Committees and our Board of Directors is an important function of the Organization Committee. This effort ensures that a wide range of perspectives are represented as we build programs to promote the District, develop the businesses within it, and enhance the overall design of our downtown community.

Developing Relationships

To successfully recruit volunteers, the members of our Organization Committee are dedicated to getting to know you

Main Street Reception

and the businesses and

organizations you

manage. Building

these relationships also

improves our ability to ensure your interests are kept in mind regardless of your ability to volunteer

with the organization.

Member and Partner Gatherings

We also recognize the benefits of providing opportunities for everyone to get to know fellow stakeholders in the River District, our program, and our many volunteers. To facilitate this, the Organization Committee has been hard at work developing a series of fun, fast-paced gatherings that will be packed with opportunities to build business-to-business relationships and gain valuable information on the services Main Street Wausau provides. The first of these gatherings is scheduled for late February. Look for an invitation coming soon!

Organizational Communication

Because we understand your information needs can occur at any time throughout the year, it's critical that we have well established communication channels and information sources in place. The Organization Committee does just this by producing monthly e-newsletters like this one, sending e-updates on programmatic developments, maintaining a listing of business resources on our website and by staffing the Main Street office with a Manager to provide you with one-on-one assistance in making the most of all the organization has to offer.

Security Surveys: Did you know that the Wausau Police Department offers free Security Surveys for businesses and residences to help keep you and your establishment safe and secure?

All it takes is a 30 minute evaluation of your business or propertyby a trained officer to arm you with knowledge you can use to enhance the security of your building or business. An officer will inspect the security of everything from doors and locks to shipping and receiving areas to provide you verbal and written feedback on security improvements you may want to consider.  Officers can also work with you Community Service Logoto target specific concerns or issues you may be experiencing.

To schedule a Security Survey, contact Wausau Police Department Patrol Captain, Dwayne Dachel, at 715.261.7808 or by email.

Daily Crime Logs: If information on the types of crime being reported in your neighborhood could assist you in enhancing your own security, then Daily Crime Logs may be of interest to you. Located on the City of Wausau's website, Daily Crime Logs display reports generated by Officers during the prior 24 hours, or prior 72 hours, if on a Monday. If additional information is sought on any specific topic, you are encouraged to contact the Wausau Police Department.

Share Your Information With Others: If you experience any crime-related activity, be it a bad check or a break in, consider informing Main Street Wausau of the incident. Sharing information could protect your neighbors or even assist you in resolving issues you may experience as we can quickly and easily disseminate information to over 100 business and property owners in the District. To report an incident, contact Dawn Follendorf at 715.845.1328 or by email.
