Keeping It Fresh: Financial Literacy According to Harvard Business Review, a majority of U.S. managers surveyed by the Business Literacy Institute were unable to distinguish profit from cash, and many didn't know the difference between an income statement and a balance sheet. From the article: "Does this lack of financial literacy matter? From individual managers' point of view, it surely does. Those who can't speak the language of business can't contribute much to a discussion of performance and are unlikely to advance in the hierarchy. They may be caught off guard by financial shenanigans, as many employees at Enron were. They will be unable to gauge the health of a prospective employer."
Are your colleagues financially literate? They can take the Financial IQ Test here (it's a paid test).

Quick Tips: 2011 Marketing Trends A couple of months ago, we made some predictions on the big marketing trends for 2011. They include:
* Content * Customer engagement * Social commerce * Group buying * Q&A sites * Mobile * Creative destruction * Net neutrality * FTC rulings
You can read on Spin Sucks why we believe these are the big ones to incorporate by clicking here and here.
But we're big believers in practicing what we preach and in not extolling wisdom without backing up our theories and philosophies with hard, cold facts and real numbers.
Which is why, on December 15, we're hosting a webinar (cost is $50) to help you not only understand the theory behind each of these nine trends, but to help you implement one, or all of them, into your business and marketing plans for 2011.
You'll have access to case studies, to tracking methods, and to figuring out how to set goals for each of the trends. And then you'll learn how to execute flawlessly with a few test runs and a little fun.
For additional trends reading, David Armano wrote a great column that will help broaden your thinking.
So read up, take some notes, jot down some questions, register for the webinar, and we'll "see" you on Wednesday!
