Greetings!

We have received numerous comments and expressions of gratitude from you regarding the 2011 International Christian Science Nursing Conference. We need to set the record straight...

THANK YOU!

It was your enthusiasm; the marvelous demonstrations you made to get there; and all the supportive metaphysical work that came before and was ongoing throughout - that made the Conference an awesome experience.

For you, and for those who kept the home fires burning, we dedicate this special issue of Vision Now!

In this issue of Vision Now!, you will find summaries of some of the talks and workshops given at the Conference. In February 2012 we expect to share the remaining summaries.

So jump in and recall the crisp morning air, soft nickering of nearby horses and buoyancy gained through sharing fellowship with Christian Science nurses.

Lovingly,

Your CSNN Board

Report from Christian Science

Committee on Publication to the

Christian Science Nurses

By Wanda Jane Warmack, Manager, Strategic Relations, Health Care and Insurance Industries

The Committee on Publication is inspired by the work of Christian Science nurses, by their devotion to Christian Science, by the healing that they are witnessing. The Committee Office is so pleased to share what we are seeing in our work with governments and with the health care and insurance industries.

I would like to ask you all to ask yourselves the following question during this talk and in thinking about your activities: What does Christian Science

nursing have to offer for the health of all mankind?

"A city set on a hill" cannot be hid -- Jesus said "ye are the light of the world." (Matthew 5)

Medical professionals and governments are acknowledging this. One medical professional describes Christian Science nursing as providing a "model for nursing." Christian Science nursing has a tender message of love for all individuals. We understand better now that the "business of health care" has an impact on Christian Science nursing.

In relation to Christian Science nursing, the Committee Office has two roles: removing impositions on Christian Science by providing accommodations in law which permit the practice of Christian Science nursing; and working with Medicare and private health plans in the United States so that Christian Scientists and others who are interested in this system of care are not denied access to Christian Science.

The Legislative Division along with our United Kingdom and Federal offices work to remove impositions on Christian Science by providing accommodations for Christian Science nursing worldwide. Our Federal Office has been very involved with health care reform in the US and many of you have assisted us in meetings on Capitol Hill with Congressmen and agency officials.

The new federal health care reform law does not yet contain any religious accommodation or exception for Christian Scientists and others who use spiritual care services.

To remedy this situation, the Federal Office continues to: Read More...

Comments from Conference Attendees

"Thank you so much for the wonderful nurturing, inspiring, Spirit-filled fun we all had together. I'm so grateful for this opportunity to ground my faith that much more - to learn and to feel more of God's tender care."

"It has been so wonderful to be in a community where Truth, Life and Love are consciously expressed and lived so freely. Thank you, CSNN, for providing this gathering - a true bringing together in unity of all the diverse expressions of Christian Science nursing."

"As Christian Science nurses, we often work in our fields of labor by ourselves. The opportunity to come together as fellow workers in the vineyard, to share inspiration, care ideas, and concerns, uplifts us and encourages us to increase the size of our vineyard, to bless all mankind." conference attendees

"It was wonderful! Great sharing and information."

"Many thanks to the CSNN Board for all the behind-the-scenes planning - the inspired emails - the care in planning the Conference. Also for the presenters who worked so hard to teach and share. Also for the coordination - even the breaks between activities. Thank you all."

"Each conference has been such a blessing! Full of inspiration, information, and networking with many Read More...

Wendy abdollahi-Blumer 2Sliding Sheets Workshop
by Wendy Abdollahi

A slide sheet is made of nylon sailcloth, which slides on itself, thus reducing the

friction between the patient and the surface. Slide sheets are used to reduce the effort required to move a patient, for example: up in bed, from side to side, from bed to chair, or into the car, etc.

There are two main kinds of slide sheets: tubular ones, or flat slide sheets with or without handles, usually used in pairs. Slide sheets come in several different sizes, from small ones, to full-body-length ones, to extra large.

In the workshop at the CSNN Conference I demonstrated the basic use of the tubular slide sheet. The large one for moving a person up in bed, or from side to side, and the little one for moving a patient from bed to chair.

I showed how easy it is to, unassisted, move a large patient up in bed, (or from side to side) if basic principles are understood and applied properly.

I also demonstrated how to use the small slide sheet to move a patient from bed to chair. These can also be very useful when assisting a patient into a car.

 Products and Equipment Liz Harned

by Elizabeth Harned

We saw a lot of products and equipment at the Conference this year. It was great to have everyone participating. This presentation was really a result of everyone working together and sharing with each other what works. When we started off the presentation we took a few minutes to think about how we evaluate products within the context of Christian Science. I used the recent revision of the Scope of Services as an outline for the presentation.

From Scope of Services: Choosing and using items that are "consistent with the theology and ethics of Christian Science" and at the same time support our demonstration of "God's tender care, ever-presence, and omnipotence" . . . as we faithfully and consistently acknowledge man's spiritual perfection;" we also talked about what we do not do: "Administer medication, drugs, or using medicated, herbal, or vitamin-based products and remedies . . . using & administering medically oriented techniques or technology."

As we reasoned together in product evaluation we cannot start without thinking about our motives in using differing products. In purifying our motives we asked ourselves the following questions with regard to each new product or piece of equipment. Here is the list we developed at the conference:  Read More...

Gabriel
Website Building Workshop
by Gabriel Serafini

Gabriel Serafini presented two workshops; one on the topic of creating and using websites, and the other on social media tools to express our love for Christian Science with our field and the world.  He encouraged the participants to take responsibility for sharing their knowledge of Christian Science and how it impacts their daily lives.  Picture 1,000 individual websites and expressions of why and how Christian Science is effective -- this is the vision that Gabriel shared with the group.

We've included a copy of the handout from his presentation on Website Building for further information. Read More...

Alistair BuddReport on Informal Meeting of
Visiting Christian Science Nurses

by Alistair Budd

Fourteen VCSN's (Visiting Christian Science Nurses) were represented at the 2011 Cedars conference (ten from US, one each from Switzerland, UK, Australia, South Africa). An informal meeting for VCSN's was organized during the CSNN conference. Many other conference attendees also gathered to learn more on how VCSN's operate worldwide.

All VCSN's said it is essential to educate the Board and the Field about Christian Science nursing. Encourage Board members to take Read More...
