Dialogues for Quality in Education:
Giving Visibility to Creative Thinking
and Collaboration in Our Schools and Communities

June 21, 2012: Pre-Conference

June 22-24, 2012: Conference

forest 4

This year's conference in Portland, Oregon will take place in

Washington Park, which is situated within a 5,100 acre wooded area, making it the largest forested area within city limits anywhere in the United States. These expansive grounds house the Portland Children's Museum, World Forestry Center, Oregon Zoo, Hoyt Arboretum, the International Rose Test Garden, the Portland Japanese Garden as well as miles of hiking trails.

The beauty of this natural environment provides an ideal backdrop for discussions focusing on creative thinking and collaboration as well as ateliers focusing on movement, kinetic art and the many connections that can be made between languages. Participants will visit local Reggio-inspired schools, including Opal School of the Portland Children's Museum, and will have the opportunity to tour "The Wonder of Learning - The Hundred Languages of Children" exhibit. In addition, there is a pre-conference focusing on mentoring.

The following comments from participants of the
2011 NAREA Summer Conference offer reflections of this
rich and compelling professional development initiative:

It was a wonderful experience that lifted my spirits but also helped push my thinking about the Reggio approach.

The morning sessions with presenters from Reggio were amazing and inspiring! I could have listened to them all day.

The
atelier experience was a highlight of the conference
because of the culture of the natural environment. I was totally mesmerized with the beauty of the beach and sharing our perspectives as we created new stories with the materials.

The relationships in our community have benefited from the
depth of our work together and supported and validated
our work in the community. Thank you NAREA for all your
contagious energy and inspiration.
