2012 NAREA Winter Conference Drawing Winners |
There were two drawings for NAREA members at the NAREA Winter Conference, one for a 30-minute Skype session with Lella Gandini and Amelia Gambetti, and one for a free registration fee for the 2013 NAREA Winter Conference!
Congratulations to Margie Costello-Chevis and Vivian Belmont!

Margie Costello-Chevis (L) was the winner of the Skype time, and said it couldn't have come at a better time in her 25-year career. Margie is an Early Childhood Specialist at the recently opened Las Positas College Child Development Center in Livermore, California, where they are studying the principles of the Reggio Emilia philosophy. Margie is also a California Early Childhood Mentor Teacher, working with ECD students doing their practicum in her classroom.
Vivian Belmont (R) won the free registration for the 2013 NAREA Winter Conference in Tucson, Arizona, and she said that the win highlighted how important it is to take professional development seriously. In addition to her work as a consultant and workshop leader, Vivian has been Curriculum Coordinator at Adat Ari El ECC in Los Angeles, California for the last seven years. She is responsible for providing materials for 2 to 5 year olds to work with on a "grand scale." In the past, her students have worked with ice, trees, water and stones, and this year they are working with very large pieces of fabric.

2011 NAREA Summer Conference in Pacific Grove, California.
The Third NAREA Winter Conference, "Interweaving of Children's and Adults' Research: Discovering the Joys and Complexities of Research," in partnership with and hosted by Google Children's Centers, was held in Mountain View, California on February 11-12, 2012. Over 400 participants attended the conference. Presentations were made by Google Children's Center educators on Saturday morning and were followed by visits to the four GCC sites: The Orchards, The Woods, The Wetlands and The Fields. A reception was held in the evening at the Computer History Museum with a welcoming address from Amelia Gambetti and Lella Gandini, including a viewing of videos from the Reggio Emilia municipal infant-toddler centers and preschools. Inspiring presentations were given by Amelia and Lella at the Computer History Museum throughout the day on Sunday. The following photos represent a sampling of the conference activities.
