2011 Winner of Free Study Tour to Reggio Emilia |
Congratulations Katherine Marcus!
Katherine is a graduate of the Bank Street College of Education and has worked in New York City as an early childhood educator for about 25 years in several settings with children ranging from eighteen months to turning five. She currently works at the Broadway Presbyterian Church Nursery School in New York as the head teacher of a unique mixed-age "one room school house" comprised of older two's all the way through fours turning five. The Reggio Emilia Philosophy came to her attention while in graduate school. Her interest was propelled by substituting at the Beginnings School, a Reggio inspired school in NYC. It was there that she observed how children could be facilitators in/of their own learning and where she observed the value of photo documentation. The experience propelled her study of the Reggio Emilia philosophy through reading and through workshops. Katherine hopes to travel to Italy in 2012. |
