ARCH

Greetings!

mall bloomingdales

Do you remember your first trip to the mall with friends?
Is your child ready for that freedom?
What is the right age to give your child a cell phone?
What about dating?

ARCH recommends that this summer you read, Letting Go with Love and Confidence by Kenneth Ginsburg M.D. and Susan Fitzgerald.  The authors offer practical advice on these and other everyday questions.   On Wednesday, October 17, 2012, ARCH will host a Book Talk with co-author Susan Fitzgerald.

During the school year, ARCH holds monthly meetings.  Each meeting includes a brief presentation.  Guests this past year included... the Tredyffrin Police Chief, Conestoga students talking about related school clubs and Conestoga administrators talking about the prom.  It's hard not to walk away with some new insight.   Our first meeting next year is scheduled for Wednesday, September 17, 2012.  Everyone is welcome to attend.  Similarly, we invite anyone interested in getting more involved in ARCH to contact one of us directly.

Have a happy and safe summer!

Partnering with Tredyffrin Police, ARCH purchased a permanent prescription drug disposal bin that is located in the Tredyffrin Twp building lobby and accessible M-F (6am -10pm). Now unused or expired prescription drugs can be safely disposed of, instead of being left around the house where they may pose a risk to children and teens.  March 2012.  link

Decision making strategy:

The book identifies a three-step strategy for making decisions about whether your child is ready for various new experiences or privileges.

Granting new privileges:

Parents learn to tie granting new privileges to their adolescent's growing capabilities and demonstrated responsibility.

Teen's need independence:

The strategies offered honor a teenagers' need for more independence while keeping them safe, as well as minimizing the conflicts that can harm family relationships.

Social skills vs. social suicide:

The book also suggests teachable social skills to help your child survive adolescence such as how to say no to a friend but maintain the friendship, and provides ideas about how to approach conversations with your child on certain important but difficult topics.

All parents are welcome to attend this ARCH event.
