I will be presenting at P.O.W.E.R.Org's green series. My topic is with health. I will make green smoothies and raw chocolate pudding.

Dear Friends and Colleagues,
As fall approaches it is a wonderful time for change. Change is always good because it forces you to step outside of our comfort zone and do things that you didn't know you were capable of doing. Sometimes change is by choice or force, either way it is a great thing. Along with change you must understand and never loose sight of the big picture. With that being said, I decided to link the newsletter to my blog. I felt the need to create consistency. Please comment or suggest anything. If you want to share some news or write an article, drop me a line. Feel free to subsrcirbe to the blog.
This month we are celebrating fall, and it's a fashion and book lovers dream. New York Fashion Week (Sept 9-17) takes place at its new home in Lincoln Center. The Brooklyn Book Festival (Sept. 10-12) is now a weekend. Atlanta will host Hautelanta Fashion Week (Sept. 15-19) at the Defoor Center. Calming Corners will have updates from all three events.
Fall is also time for back to school. CNN's education contributor, Dr. Steve Perry was kind enough to share some of his educational wisdom for parents and educators. Other profile highlights include Detroit born poet jessica Care moore and author of The Curvy Girl's Guide to Style Chastity Garner.
I want to thank each of you for your continued support and a shout out to author Phyllis Bourne who included my blog in the dedication of her latest book Operation Prince Charming. Hope you enjoy the remainder of your summer. I encourage you to create change and start living the life you always wanted.

BE Inspired-Artistic Angel jessica Care moore |  I first heard the name jessica Care moore, during a PBS documentary titled I'll Make Me a World, a series that celebrated African American artists in the 20 th century. I was excited to see a Detroit writer represented and intrigued by Moore's creative construction of words to create truth, awareness and unforgettable poetry. This year, I had an opportunity to meet Moore. We happened to be on the same early (6:15 a.m.) flight out of Detroit to a layover in Philadelphia. During the walk through the airport in Phillly, we talked about Detroit, following your dreams, creativity and of course writing. Keeping in touch, she took some time out share her story and motivational wisdom. When she read her poetry for the first time aloud at her father's funeral it changed her life. |

BE Informed - Five Educational Tips with Dr. Steve Perry |
 Many of you probably remember him from CNN's documentary Black in America. Dr. Perry founded ConnCAP the Connecticut Collegiate Awareness Program at Capital Community College. This program sent 100% of its first generation graduates to four-year colleges for six years. In 2004 Capital Preparatory Magnet School opened its doors. Perry started this public middle and high school in the state's lowest performing district. Due to his vision and hard work, Capital Prep has become one of the nation's most successful public schools. For three consecutive years,100% of the schools graduates attended four year colleges.Perry is now a regular education contributor on CNN. Dr. Perry was kind enough to share some of his educational wisdom for educators and parents. How can we create educational confidence in students? BE Fashionable- Chastity Garner Curvy Girl's Style |
 Many times opportunities can redirect your chosen path. Many consider this the creators way of intervening. For Chastity Garner, blogger and author of The Curvy Girl's Guide to Style, I am sure we can all agree. Garner was completing her Masters Degree in Public Administration from Kennesaw State University when she became a signature model for Jibri plus sizes in 2005. "That experience opened up a world of garments and pieces beyond my imagination," she says. Her experience in the fashion industry started her creative wheels spinning. Unfortunately, she suffered from a knee injury and her runway days ended but she ran with those creative wheels, followed her vision and opened a new door for herself in the industry. BE Well - Raw Food and Soul Food | |
 As most of you I am a strong advocate for raw foods. The food is not cooked over 112 degrees. There are many health benefits for going raw. I have read and heard testimonials where people have healed themselves and improved their life due to the raw food lifestyle. As I started to adapt to the lifestyle, I thought of the health issues in the African American community and wanted to write an article about the traditional soul food diet and incorporating raw foods. I also felt this would be a great way to introduce the lifestyle in a non-intimidating way. Pitching my idea to a some magazines, I was told the idea was a bit progressive. I let the article sit for a while. After two years, I pitched to Purely Delicious.
