Breaking the Silence Around Suicide
The death of Robin Williams on Monday was instantly followed by an outpouring of sadness and shock.

From this week's media coverage, it's clear that the stigma and misconceptions surrounding suicide and mental illness are still very widespread.

At The Children's Room, families impacted by suicide find a caring and understanding place where they can share their stories and connect with others.

Volunteers Needed for TCR Garden Day
We need help doing some work in our garden before families arrive for programs this fall.

Our garden volunteers play an important role in making The Children's Room a welcoming and peaceful oasis for grieving families.

Garden Volunteer Day

Friday, September 12
10am - 2pm

All skill levels welcome!

There will be gardening experts on hand to help direct our team of volunteers.

We will take a break for lunch - please plan to bring your lunch or purchase one nearby.

Educating Professionals on Grief & Loss
TCR Education Director Deborah Rivlin (right) presents on supporting grieving teens
Last month nearly 30 professionals attended TCR workshops to learn how to better support grieving children and teens.

"Thank you again for a valuable and insightful day. I feel I have a deeper understanding and sensitivity to my students, and I will go forward with that this fall."

If you weren't able to attend, you can still have access to these great trainings!

"Parenting While Grieving"
Tools & Strategies that Help Families Cope with Loss
Research has consistently shown that children are better able to cope after a death when their surviving parent is also receiving support around their own grief experience.

The Children's Room will again be offering our 8-week "Parenting While Grieving" series this fall, teaching parenting skills while providing parents and caregivers with education on how children of different ages experience and express grief.

Please visit our website to learn more about this series and how you can join.
Our Heartfelt Thanks
Hearts

We are grateful to so many of you whose support enables all that we do here at The Children's Room. A word of thanks for some special donations of time, talent, and much-needed resources:

  • Irish American Club of Arlington for their generous donation. (Pictured at right: Richard Cullinane, Treasurer, presents a check to TCR Development Director Nancy Simpson-Banker)
  • Youth volunteers from the Boys & Girls Club in Chelsea for helping clean and organize toys and art supplies at TCR.
  • All our gifted, reliable, caring volunteers (close to 100!), without whom we could not reach nearly as many children and families... thank you, one and all.

The Children's Room has partnered with Donate for Charity to make it fast and easy to donate your old vehicle to TCR. Your vehicle will be picked up - free of charge! - from anywhere and TCR will receive a donation in the amount of the vehicle's value.
