MSHSAA sportsmanship awards
On behalf of the Missouri State High School Activities Association, R-I Athletic Director Kent Keith presents [from left] eighth grader Lauren Rowland, junior Allison Huskey, eighth grader Adam Vincent and senior Drew Dowd awards of excellence on Wednesday, May 8, for their exemplary display of sportsmanship, ethics and integrity, as determined by teachers and coaches.

A reception was held on Tuesday, May 7, at the Administrative Building for this year's retirees of Poplar Bluff Schools. Each of the 32 certified and classified staff members received a special plaque for his or her public service. School principals and supervisors reflected on their employee's career in education.

Students, teachers showcase talent
Students and teachers alike participated in Poplar Bluff High School's annual Lollapalooza talent show-featuring singing, dancing, instrumentals and comedy skits-on Monday, May 6, in the Kay Porter Theater.

Foundation golf tournament a success
The Poplar Bluff Public School Foundation raised about $8,700 on Monday, May 6, during its 14th annual golf tournament at Ozark Ridge Golf Course. In Addition, 25 businesses and individuals made prize donations. There were 22 hole sponsors and 16 teams participated. Proceeds will be used to fund student scholarships and innovative classroom projects through the nonprofit organization.

PBHS wins Scholar Bowl Championship

The PBHS Varsity Academic Team-[from left] senior Parker Smith, junior Allison Huskey, sophomore Zain Siddiqui and freshman Jackson Rideout-won the Missouri State High School Activities Association Class 4, District 1 Scholar Bowl Championship last month, beating Farmington High School 3:1 in overtime, before being defeated by Oakville High School later in the sectional tournament. Smith and Huskey were all-district medalists.
Since 1992, R-I science teacher Gail Karlish has sponsored the high school team, which has consistently been a district finalist or semifinalist. In 1994, PBHS took fourth in Missouri. The following year, MSHSAA officially sanctioned the academic competition.

Summer School
Summer School will run from Tuesday, May 28 to Monday, June 24.
Gator Bowl fundraisers
The Poplar Bluff Cheerleaders will put on a yard sale Friday and Saturday, May 31-June 1, at Fox Orthodontic Center on 1300 N. Westwood Bldvd.
The cheerleaders will hold a Pancake Breakfast from 7:30-10 a.m. Saturday, June 8, at The Bread Co. The cost is $5.
Each of the fundraisers will help finance the cheerleaders' upcoming New Year's Day performance at Gator Bowl in Jacksonville, Fla.
Long-Range Planning
Long-range planning meetings for the Citizen's Advisory Committee will be held from 6:30-8 p.m. Tuesday, June 4 and 11, plus July 9 and 30, at the 5th & 6th Grade Center.

On Tuesday, May 7, the DAR ran an article about Kaycee Kimbrow of PBHS being selected to attend the Naval Academy Summer Seminar program. (Editor's note: Apologies to Dr. L.K. for missing this headline).
On Tuesday, May 14, Three Rivers College issued a release about our College Now graduates.
KAIT8 also recognized the College Now grads.
Additionally, KAIT8 recognized our high school graduates, the most in over 30 years.
KFVS12 honored our College Now grads.
KFVS12 honored the Class of 2013 as well.
On Wednesday, May 15, the DAR ran a photo spread of members of the Class of 2013 revisiting their respective grade schools.
On Thursday, May 16, KFVS12 recognized our Beta Club's newly elected officers.
On Sunday, May 19, the DAR reported about our College Now graduates. (Editor's note: Zachary Vincent also participated in the program).
On Monday, May 20, the SEMO Times ran several school photo releases, including one about a PBHS graduate earning a scholarship through the Missouri School Plant Managers Association.
