Hello all you Picnic Goers!
This Sunday, August 7th, we have our annual church picnic. This year we are going to a new place - Riverfront Park which is, as the name suggests, on the river. It is on the site of the old Point Pleasant Hospital and is a beautiful park close by with good facilities.
There is the river for swimming, lots of grass where children can run and play, a shelter to sit under, a playground for the kids and the beautiful river to entertain those who just like to sit and relax.
It's recommended that those who plan to go into the river bring water shoes.
We will begin with worship at 10 a.m. or there about. We will share in the sacrament of communion. Our theme for worship is "GO" so please read the article below to prepare your part. It is always a joy to worship outdoors; to be reminded of the beauty of creation which is God's gift to us.
Come this Sunday. Bring a friend or two, a lawn chair, a dish to share (dessert, salad or side dish) and don't forget to wear your blue PPPC T-shirt. Come and enjoy the fellowship we know in Christ in God's great outdoors.
Blessings,
Pastor Linda

Picnic Theme: Go!
We are taking our worship theme at our picnic this year from the Presbyterian Youth Triennium. It was a one-word theme - Go. One of our young people who attended Triennium plans to be at the picnic and is excited about sharing some of her experiences there.
We hope that, during our informal worship service to be held at the park, others of you will also be willing to share a story of an experience of how the word "Go" has impacted your faith. "Go" is an important word in the Bible. Abraham was told to go to a land where God would show him. Moses was told to go to Egypt to free God's people from slavery. The lawyer who came to Jesus asking how he could gain eternal life was told the parable of the Good Samaritan. When Jesus asked him which of the three (Priest, Levite, Samaritan) had proved to be a neighbor, the lawyer answered, "The Samaritan". Jesus told him to "Go and do likewise."
How has God told you to go? Where is God telling us as a congregation to go? Think about this word in connection with your faith. Be willing to share with others in worship at the picnic. Hope to see you there!

PPPC DECALS AND T-SHIRTS
The Deacons are selling both tee shirts and decals. Tee shirts are $15 each and decals are $3 each or two for $5.
Both these items make it easy to recognize each other out around town as well as making our presence known in the community. Didn't get yours yet? Look for Dee D'Amore at the picnic this Sunday. She is a traveling saleswoman! Don't forget to wear your shirt to the picnic. Both items are available in the office during the week.
KEITH REILLY AWARDED ORGAN STUDIES GRANT - The Ocean County Chapter of the American Guild of Organists (AGO) has announced that Keith Reilly has received the first Elsie Madsen Fischer Organ Education Grant. Keith, 13 years old, has been studying the organ on an informal basis for the past year with Sara Hoey. He will use the award to fund formal lessons with Josh Melson of Toms River. Keith will enter 8th grade at Memorial Middle School in September. He participates in the school's 8th Grade Band, the Jazz Band, and Chorus, in addition to playing both the piano and the organ during church services. He is a budding composer as well, having written an anthem for the Dove Choir and an orchestral symphony. The grant is named for the founding dean of the AGO chapter, the late Elsie Madsen Fischer of Toms River, NJ. The grant program honors her memory by providing funds for organ studies which build the skills of church organists.
ST. GREGORY'S PANTRY NEEDS - St. Gregory's Pantry gives temporary aid (a 4 day supply of food and personal items) to approximately 1200 individuals annually. This Summer, pantry items are running low (as they often do, this time of year). Items to be donated to the Pantry can be dropped off in the baskets in the Narthex. A lot of their clients have microwave cooking only, so items that can be microwaved or eaten out of a can are always needed. Can openers are always needed. In addition, laundry detergent is an expensive item for many Pantry clients. Do you have a surplus of produce from your garden this Summer? Consider dropping it off at the Pantry Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. to Noon. Thank you for continually supporting this great need in our own community.
CONSTRUCTION AT THE HIGH SCHOOL - Much has been happening at Point Beach High School this month, as the building is undergoing renovations. Some aspects of the project are requiring temporary use of our parking lot, as you can see from this photo. We're happy to help our neighbors in this way, but please be advised that, if you visit the church on a weekday, you may need to park on the street.
