BODY IMAGE
Lately there has been an onslaught of videos, photos of models and conversation about women's bodies. Okay, I know we have always talked about that. Our whole economy is built around making women sexy and beautiful so men will love them or buy the fancy car they are posed atop. Our society has spent decades perfecting the look of the perfect women as it changes generation to generation.
But recently the models have been heavier...much heavier. Some have been downright obese. Suddenly plus-sized models have become the rage. Plus-sized women are seen proudly "jiggling" as they swim or run, modeling lingerie in European fashion shows, and in ads for all sorts of products from soap to cereal.
As a woman who has always struggled with her weight, a part of me applauds this shift in perspective. We have been obsessed with emaciated-looking women for most of my life. Growing up Twiggy was all the rage, and I was bereft and not having a body like that. I had pictures of her, and models like her, everywhere around my little bedroom, calling to me, reminding me that not only did I not look like them, but that I would never ever look like them.
Models like Kate Moss followed suit, and although many voices have risen up in protest around her and images like her, they were not heeded...until now.
So now here it is 2015 and suddenly there is a new fondness for curvier, plumper women. Shouldn't I be dancing with joy? I'm not. The reason is because I feel now we are swinging in the other direction in just as dangerous a way as we were when we worshiping thinness.

THE SCIENCE OF SLEEP
I happened to catch a remarkable City Arts & Lectures program on NPR interviewing neurologist Matt Walker and I was enthralled. The information was staggering...Lack of or decreased amounts of sleep can contribute to a whole gamut of problems including developing cancer! He talked about how birds and underwater creatures sleep, how creative geniuses use sleep, how much sleep we need and so much more. It was fascinating!
It also appears to be non-downloadable as a podcast. But I did find this article which summarizes the show, and felt it was worth sharing with you.

 LIFE COACHING/WEIGHT COUNSELING
If you are struggling in your life, whether it is weight/ health related or any other issue, consider seeking help. Life coaching does not focus on the past, like therapy. It helps you see the ways you are stuck and how to move forward. As a coach I am trained to help you uncover and manifest what you really want in your life.
Life Coaching can be done in person or on the phone.
Weight Counseling is different. This is a short-term (4-6 sessions) series where I show you the secrets of healthy eating, weight-loss, etc. We cover your eating patterns, discuss challenging foods and behaviors, and then we shop together, cook together, eat out together, and whatever else you need to live a healthier life.
Weight Counseling is best done in person but I have had many successful phone clients as well, including people in other countries!
Of course these can be combined. Contact me for a free half hour sample session!
