NUMBERS
I have been pondering getting a FitBit or something along those lines. I would wear it when I cycle or do Zumba, and of course just walking around. I am endlessly curious about those numbers: how many calories did I burn, how far did I walk/bike, what is my heart rate, how fast was I compared to last time?
People who wear these groovy gadgets are motivated by seeing the cold, hard facts of how they're performing. To some this may seem obsessive, to some unimportant, but those of us who have a drive to push ourselves a little harder, something like a bracelet you wear which tracks your movements can give us just the oomph we need to do more. They are programmed for 10,000 steps a day, for one thing, and I cannot tell you how many people have told me they get their 10,000. It is important to them and they move more because of it.
I do have a computer on my bike. Not what we consider a computer in our day to day world, this is a small device on my handlebars which tells me my speed, how far I've gone, time and average speed. It is the latter which drives me onward to bigger and better. Right now I am trying to increase my average, so check it often. This little number is hugely motivating for me.

RECIPES
It has been awhile since I have published any dessert recipes. I am always looking for ones which will be satisfying, yet indulgent. I think these will do the trick...
The mudslides must be eaten warm, and don't overcook them. They are gluten free, by the way... And the banana cake has no oil or butter and yet is really moist.
My rule for making desserts...I ONLY MAKE THEM FOR AN EVENT WHERE LOTS OF PEOPLE WILL INDULGE IN THEM. I NEVER MAKE THEM CASUALLY JUST TO HAVE AROUND THE HOUSE...

60, NOT 50, IS THE NEW MIDDLE AGE
So says the Huffington Post...I am inclined to agree. Even though we don't live to 120 if one looks at the physical and mental capabilities of 60 year olds today compared to their parents or grandparents this is the prime of life.

THE MORAL BUCKET LIST
David Brooks is a columnist, author and is often heard on NPR. In this article he really spells out the evolution of our lives from self-absorbed and driven to stumbling into a morally higher place. Well worth reading...

HEALTH MYTHS
Have you been using a lot of coconut oil because it is so good for you? Do you buy gluten free foods because they are somehow better for you? Then this article might open your eyes.
I think they're missing a few myths here, I would have to say (agave syrup, for example, is another allegedly healthy food that is just as high in sugar as corn syrup), but this article does point out some pretty questionable stories goin' 'round about certain foods.

NEW EVENT!!
I thought I would let all of you know that I am producing a new event this summer! I am working with Sonoma Media Group and putting on the Petaluma Fireworks and Celebration on July 4th at the Fairgrounds. Since it is a family event there will lots there for kids, and really great food (I am bringing over some of the Bodega Festival vendors, so guaranteed yum!), beer and wine. There will be crafts and entertainment too. It should be a great event, ending in an awesome fireworks show! It is a Saturday night so put it on your calendar and watch for future posts!!

SEBASTOPOL BIKE CENTER'S
TOUR D'FRIENDS!
SUNDAY JUNE 7th, 2015
Come join us on our first anniversary for a fun gathering of bicycle
friends and ride with us! We are organizing some group rides
which will start and end at the shop, with a party following! 3 DIFFERENT RIDES:
EASY ~ 14 miles start time:10am We ride the Joe Rodota Trail out to Santa Rosa and back.
We'll ride up to Windsor via Martinelli, Westside, Wholer, Eastside and Starr. Some gentle climbs.
Harrison Grade, Coleman Valley, Bay Hill, Barnett Valley and Burnside all in the same ride!
These are group rides, not an organized ride. There are no snack-laden rest stops or sag wagons: just friends doing a ride together on a Sunday morning and then enjoying a barbecue afterwards. We have a designated coffee stop for the two longer ride, like you would when you ride with your friends. There will be 2 folks per ride to act as "guides" so everyone stays on the route. We ask everyone to sign up with us, so we know how many will be riding, and to pay $10 if you will stay for the party. We will have vegetarian and meat options, cake, champagne and beer, of course. YOU DO NOT NEED TO RIDE TO COME TO THE PARTY! IT WILL BEGIN AROUND 12:30 AND GO UNTIL THE FOOD AND BEER RUN OUT...

 LIFE COACHING/WEIGHT COUNSELING
If you are struggling in your life, whether it is weight/ health related or any other issue, consider seeking help. Life coaching does not focus on the past, like therapy. It helps you see the ways you are stuck and how to move forward. As a coach I am trained to help you uncover and manifest what you really want in your life.
Life Coaching can be done in person or on the phone.
Weight Counseling is different. This is a short-term (4-6 sessions) series where I show you the secrets of healthy eating, weight-loss, etc. We cover your eating patterns, discuss challenging foods and behaviors, and then we shop together, cook together, eat out together, and whatever else you need to live a healthier life.
Weight Counseling is best done in person but I have had many successful phone clients as well, including people in other countries!
Of course these can be combined. Contact me for a free half hour sample session!
