DIETING...
It's March. When I was a Weight Watchers leader I observed this was generally a dead month. Unlike January when the meeting room was standing room only, by March it dwindled down to the hardcore who came every week no matter what their weight.
At this juncture something shifted in many folks and they would begin to revert back to previous consumption or behaviors, gain back some or all of the weight they lost, and lose that precious motivation that drove them to join in the first place. This whole business of "dieting" for most of us entails sacrifice layered upon sacrifice. Yet it is proven that for most people deprivation does not lead to long term success.
But there were always the regular people who came every week and shared their struggles and victories. They cared less about the numbers on the scale and more about the motivation and information the environment provided. Many were not really doing the program, counting points, or remotely on what would be considered a "diet" in the sense of depriving themselves. They indulged but were mindful, balanced the goodies with activity and healthy eating, and made it work. Maybe they weren't losing weight, but they weren't gaining either. Overall they were healthy, active, and paid attention to the good and bad in terms of their bodies and their minds.
I had the good fortune to get to know many of you well in those meetings as we were together week after week, year after year, and I felt like we shared a special bond of knowing that it doesn't have to be a rollercoaster ride: there can be a sense of balance and rationality to the world of food if we choose to make it so.

RECIPES
This month's recipes are not based on any theme. They just both sounded yummy. The chicken is perfect for those of us with lots of lemons and minimal prep time, and the burritos using phyllo dough is a new twist which sounded too good to ignore.

TOFU...LOVE IT OR HATE IT
Okay, I know my readership is made up of two distinct factions: those who like tofu and those who would not eat it if you paid them. Truth is I used to be the latter but I have found there are certain ways of making tofu that are downright delicious. I have never succeeded in convincing my husband of this, hence we rarely cook it, but I have hope for him. This article not only clearly defines the different types of tofu, it has some excellent sounding recipes. Don't wrinkle your nose up...check it out...

MODELS WHO ARE ACTUALLY PLUS SIZES
Recently "plus-sized" models have been in the news, but more often than not this refers to women who are size 8 or 10. In my book that is not a plus size. Sports Illustrated actually has a real size 16 model in their current issue, who is interviewed here by Katie Couric. As more models like this are shown I hope it helps all of us who are not size 2 feel better about ourselves.

LIFE COACHING/WEIGHT COUNSELING
If you are struggling in your life, whether it is weight/ health related or any other issue, consider seeking help. Life coaching does not focus on the past, like therapy. It helps you see the ways you are stuck and how to move forward. As a coach I am trained to help you uncover and manifest what you really want in your life.
Life Coaching can be done in person or on the phone.
Weight Counseling is different. This is a short-term (4-6 sessions) series where I show you the secrets of healthy eating, weight-loss, etc. We cover your eating patterns, discuss challenging foods and behaviors, and then we shop together, cook together, eat out together, and whatever else you need to live a healthier life.
Weight Counseling is best done in person but I have had many successful phone clients as well, including people in other countries!
Of course these can be combined. Contact me for a free half hour sample session!
