This is one of those issues where I am sitting in front of the computer and wondering what to write about. I feel like I besiege you all with advice on how to eat, exercise, yaddi yadda yadda. I suspect at some point it goes from motivational to something else entirely, and the last thing I want to be is a nagging mother hen. At this point you all know what to do to get and stay healthy, so I will talk about something equally meaningful, at least to me... Because I am beginning this blog on Tuesday, February 18th I decided I would write about my mother. It is her birthday and if she were alive she would be 85 today. Sadly she passed 11 years ago and I know I am not alone in saying she is deeply missed. My siblings and her hundreds of friends would surely agree with me wholeheartedly. She was an extraordinary woman. She grew up Jewish in Vienna and was put into a Nazi concentration camp when she was 11. She was by herself as her parents abandoned her, leaving her with her grandmother, who had gotten false papers to appear Unitarian so the Nazis did not take her. In the camps she met up with a woman and her daughter who "adopted" her and the three of them actually escaped. Their story is quite remarkable, as you might imagine. READ MORE

HALF THE FOODS WALMART SELLS WOULD BE BANNED AT WHOLE FOODS!
This article really spells out the difference between the kinds of food you buy at a big box store (Safeway would fit into this category!) and a more health conscious retailer. Don't miss the fantastic "slider" at the bottom of this article which shows actual Walmart shelves of foods and what they would look like if they only sold what WF would carry...truly eye-opening!!
