Hello Readers!
Just a quick note to let you all know there will be no newsletter in 2 weeks because of the festival I produce (see below). My next newsletter will come out on September 1st.
And this brings me to the topic...being overly busy and how it can affect our weight and health.
If you're like most people the minute your plate gets overloaded with things to do, your plate gets overloaded with food as well. All your well-made plans of shopping, cooking, and working out seem to fall by the wayside and the drive-thru as well as the couch go back to being your best friends.
You tell yourself it is only until you get this particular job or piece of work done, but by then all the good habits you worked months developing have been swallowed up by the addictive nature of fast foods, and the ease with which our bodies adjust to not being physically active.

This vegan pasta and kale recipe sounded too good to ignore, and what a great idea for appetizers: little cauliflower yummies! Find the recipes on my Website Recipe Page.

400 COMPANIES WHICH ARE GMO FREE I don't talk much about the GMO controversy, but I think many of you reading this newsletter have concerns around this issue, and want the right to know if you are consuming GMO crops in some form.
Well since we do not label GMOs at least we can refer to this list to help us make wiser choices.

THE BENEFITS OF EXTRA VIRGIN OLIVE OIL
Gary from Sonoma sent me several different studies on the benefits of olive oil. So I will I just add here that despite all it has to offer, in excess it will increase your weight. But used conservatively it is the best.

A WHOLE DIFFERENT KIND OF OLIVE OIL STUDY...
While the above article might give you the factual reasons for using olive oil I suspect this video will prove even more convincing...Thank you to Craig in Sonoma for this...

YOU ARE MOVING AFTER ALL!
After chiding you last issue about not responding to my question regarding the exercise you are doing, many of you replied and I loved the diversity. My readers are from everywhere so this is a fun sampling of how people are getting activity. Thank you all for sharing! ~Marlene in Petaluma has joined the
~Jane in the UK has joined her local gym, walks the dog and gazes at the sky!
~David in San Francisco is an avid (and incredible, in my opinion) Lindy Hop dancer, who teaches dance at SF City College, so you know he gets an incredible workout on an average day. But he augments this with 3 hour advanced Ballroom classes at the Allegro Ballroom, belongs to a local fitness center, and uses the treadmill at home. He says he got a pedometer recently and it has spurred him towards the 10,000 step a day goal. ~Jo Rene in Santa Rosa teaches Great Workouts at Finley Center for Boomers. For her own personal workouts she takes classes at the Y, and works out on the Nautilus machines and treadmills. She also rides her bike! ~Jamie in Sonoma is swimming and dog walking, with a little snorkeling thrown in while on vacation (I'm jealous!). ~Anne is Sonoma walks 2.5 miles before work each day and bikes every Sunday with Kali: both are former members of my meeting, and if memory serves me right, they met there. Anne also is very involved in Biker Chicks (pictured above). She is doing the Tour D'Organics and the Tour de Fuzz! ~Joan in Santa Rosa is hooked on Zumba and takes many classes from different teachers. I know her from Annadel Fitness classes, but she belongs to 24 Hour Fitness so takes classes there as well. ~Carol in Massachusetts discovered spin classes at her local gym and found it to be the perfect combo of bike riding and aerobics, because of the music. If you'd like to share your activities with my readers please just reply to this newsletter and tell me how you are getting exercise!

STATE AND COUNTY FAIR FOOD
Recently on Facebook I was interested to see people posting about the County Fair and commenting that they disliked it for a number of reasons, but food was a biggie. Let's face it, Fair food is not the healthiest fare in the world. This diabetes article gives you the cold hard facts. Well worth a peek if you went and wondered how much damage you did... BODEGA SEAFOOD, ART & WINE FESTIVAL!
Not all fairs are created equal. Most of you know I produce this festival and it is a rollicking good time!
Excellent food: yep we have some of that fried stuff you should not be eating (and you try to hide from my sight when I see you out there...), but we also have a plethora of healthy choices in seafood, vegetarian and meats, poultry, etc. Suffice to say you will find something yummy.
The tasting has 30 wineries and a dozen great breweries, and you can also buy wines by the bottle or case in our new wine shop!
The art and craft marketplace is unique and diverse, with artisans coming from all over California and beyond.
And the entertainment is the best! Blues, swing, zydeco, Latin, and some truly unusual Celtic rock, folk, the list goes on.
This is a benefit for Stewards of the Coast & Redwoods and the Bodega Volunteer Fire Department.
Check the website for full information, to buy tickets in advance, etc.
